I Verday'd The Day Away!!!

I was very fortunate to be able to attend a Ten Seconds Studio Verday class last weekend! Yes...these were the ladies that just won Craft Wars on TLC.  Cheryl and Megan, a mother daughter duo, are famous around creative parts for their heavy metal ways! Verday is a cool paint system that transforms a surface into the look of patina-ed metal. Those of us who took the class had seven hours of Verday play and we made a ton of stuff. Here are just a few of the items, and let me tell you, that you get so hooked on antiquing things, that you just want to keep going. This is fun stuff!
4 Sheets Of Heavy Kraft Before...
And After
More Paper And A Frame
A Mini Book
A Sugar Mold

A Canvas Tote Bag
And, here I am (no make-up) with the ladies of the hour themselves! They were super fun and so knowledgeable!
Craft Wars seems to be a little controversial among artists and crafters. There is a lot of talk about it on blogs and such, and I can see it both ways. It's great to have the exposure for our industry and craft, but art is so subjective and personal, so how can one piece be better than the other? There are definitely pros and cons here. All I know is this...television is pretty much for entertainment anymore. So many of the shows on prime time are filled with inappropriate things for families. There is so little that I allow my children to watch anymore. It's kind of nice to see a show that deals with sort of what we do and who we actually know. After watching it, you go away actually learning from it, and the whole family can watch it together. I know that when I watch it, I am not thinking of a winner or loser. I just want to know more about their work as well as see more of what they create. That's how I learn after all, and I just love the conversations I am having with my children about creating things with their own hands. Art makes me happy!!!
I hope your hands get creatively dirty soon!

  1. Wow, looks like you had great fun Anita AND you produced some wonderful pieces too! I love the look of these and can see that you may get to the stage that if something stands still for 2 seconds it will get the verday treatment!! I don't know who these ladies are but they seem to be worth checking out. . . . . .
TV is not what it used to be - dare I say what my own parents would say way back when (from time to time only I may add)? I'm sure your children will benefit hugely from your obvious creative talents so you have no need to worry.

  8. You look like you had a blast! The projects you created are fantastic, I'm sure we will see more of this technique in your future projects. I feel the same way you do about Craft Wars. There are a lot of good ideas you can take away from the show. I usually record it so I can fast forward thru the comments I think are just blah, blah, blah.

    1. Hi Lorna! The colors are only the 4 that the verday paint comes in. When the Verday spray is added on top of the paint, it patinas each color, and that is what you are seeing there. They look amazingly real...like they have been out in the weather for 50 years. It's great stuff!

  12. Hin Anita, that was some class you took! I love everything that you produced (like the photo frame best I think). We don't get that programme here in the UK but it sounds interesting, although I agree, art is very subjective so I am not sure how they could choose a winner. BUT, if these ladies won, then the programme must be doing something right I guess. A x

  14. Anita! How cool you got to do this, and how coolly you did it... Well what did I expect? On trend as evah!10 Second Studio stuff is very cool and is much respected here across the pond. I wish we got Craft Wars over here in the UK, I totally agree with what you said about art being subjective, I bet Cheryl and Megan are so much fun in real life (wouldn't mind guessing the show got a few out takes from Megan!) There is a brilliant video of them with Tim Holtz which makes me totally crack up(it was a CHA promo)it is very very funny xx

  16. I agree with you Anita. It is great to get inspired by others in whatever format that may be, and it looks like you had so much fun! Making magic out of crafting materials and mediums gives so many of us a release from the things in our lives we don't want to focus on. Thanks for sharing as we don't get these sorts of programmes 'across the pond'. Hugs, Buttons x
