Alternate July Tag |
First July Tag |
A new month equals a new tag by Tim Holtz! I adore this technique so much, and couldn't wait to get started. So after I chased the dog and cat around with my compressed air can, I got to work.
For my first tag I pretty much mimicked Tim's, except for my background stamping. I added the silver Alcohol Ink a little too low so it overpowered my Archival Ink. I had to use a Sharpie to color in a few spots to make Lady Liberty a little more dark and stand out more. I didn't like that at all...craft and learn!
I had so much fun blowing 'cold' air, that I kept going and made some ATCs as well. |
BUT...then I started to wonder what would happen if I tried the same technique on a black tag to emulate the night sky. I knew the Alcohol Ink would not glide over the surface of a black tag like it does on Glossy Cardstock and it would not show up very well, but I had to give it a shot.
Sunday Stamper challenge of "Silver", and the alternate tag to the Blogger's Challenge of "4th Of July", and both to Inspiration Journal's challenge of "Red, White, & Blue". Supplies:
From My Stash- black cardstock, blue embroidary twine, denim, washer
I hope your hands get creatively dirty soon!
Two great tags, love the contrast between thetwo! Trace x
ReplyDeleteWow! They are both fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWarning! I am about to be controversial!! OK, so as much as I love the first tag and Tim's original, to be honest I just adore your second tag!! I know I shouldn't really say that as the man is such a genius, and it feels wrong to say, but I bet he'd be chuffed you'd taken his idea in another direction (I hope).
ReplyDeleteUsing Snow Cap had crossed my mind but it occurred to me it wouldn't show up well on white card (doh!) That's where your crafting genius kicks in! Thanks for sharing your talent, you are such an inspiration. Hugs, Buttons x
What Buttons said!!!! The black tag is FANTASTIC & I'm sure Tim will be thrilled with it, you did an excellent job!! I've bought the compressed air - it's such a cool technique - from Ebay, but I have none of the stamps, so I have no clue yet what I'm going to do.
ReplyDeleteHello Anita,
ReplyDeleteLove the Tags, of course, the techniques are just wonderful; the traditional coloured one is bright and patriotic, your second, is more subtle but richer, I prefer this colour palette as it generates warmth and is pleasing to my eye.
Smiles:)

TotallyTagTastic! Anita, I like both of these LOTS, but the darker one is absolutely gorgeous. You are very inspiring Mrs H! xxxx
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness Anita, I am going to upset a few peeps I am sure but I speak only the truth... I PREFER your black version of the tag... it is absolutely AMAZING, seriously, GORGEOUSNESS abounds... and what a fab technique, isn't it just the best when you have one of those "I wonder if that will work" moments! Thanks for joining in with the Sunday Stamper ... have a good week! x
ReplyDeleteI *think* I may like your second tag better than the first!! Love how the gel pens really make the fireworks pop. Love it when thinking outside the box gets a positive result.
ReplyDeleteBoth of the tags look great, but I must say I love the look of the black tag.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever gal you are! Love them both but my fave is the night sky! Especially since so many communities have had to cancel or postpone the night celebrations due to dry conditions. You are a wonderful source of inspiration! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThose two tags look amazing! Cool idea to make a night scene one! And congrats on being picked by Tim for your June tag!
ReplyDeleteI prefer your last tag and think you should send it to Tim to see what his fab products can do...
ReplyDeleteWow! Love them both! Have a great 4th, and thank you for sharing your creativity with us.
ReplyDeleteHi Anita, your first tag is stunning and I really love the colours you have achieved, but I think I have to agree with others, I love your second tag best too. I think it is the way the colours are muted but the fireworks really work well against that background. Anyway, they are both amazing........Anne x
ReplyDeleteYour tags are great. I agree with others and prefer the night sky. I think Tim will love it! He always encourages us to use his techniques but put our own spin on it. You have done just that! Thank You for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove your tags
ReplyDeleteBoth of your tags are great.
ReplyDeleteYay for fireworks! I love that second one. First also fab, but the night-time one wins hands down for me. And what could be more USA than denim?! Love your take on these x
ReplyDeleteBoth cards ar beautiful, but the second card is absolutely genius! especially with the denim-well done!
ReplyDeleteThese are wonderful!! I really love the black tag too - it turned out so well. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYour tags are incredible! I thought about black too but did not try it. I am going to now..thanks for the information! I love too how you highlighted the fireworks using a white pen.
ReplyDeleteThe second tag has a really big wow factor! It does emulate the night sky...and I like it even better than Tim's tag this month! Fab!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tags Anita!! Thanks for sharing the oops! stuff, too - it's just as helpful as the techniques that do work the way they are supposed to. I really like both tags but the black one is really extra special! Your art is Such a pleasure Anita :)
