Hello everyone, and welcome back to another Halloween make using the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween dies. I'm going to try and stagger the Sizzix and Stamper's Anonymous Halloween makes and space them out to once a week I think so I don't overload you, but I will have tutorials for every project you've seen on the Lives, so please stay tuned. Today's project features three different versions of fish loving Mr. Bones in sea creature costumes with Leaf Fragments as trees, with the headstones of his beloved pets that have passed on, tied to some themed candy to give out to my special Trick-or-Treaters. Enjoy!
For
Mr. Bones and the head stones, add two sided tape
to the back of Classic Kraft Stock colors that you want to use for Mr. Bones
and the head stones. I used two shades of gray, white, and Ivory Heavystock as
well. Die cut Mr. Bones and the head stone (I made three of each.), and
assemble them. On the head stones, I used the negative scraps from the die to
make another head stone using the opposite color because I didn't want any
pieces to go to waste, so you might want to do the same thing.
For
the sea creatures, add
two sided tape to the colors of Kraft Stock you want to use for the sea
creatures. You will need two of each of the sea creatures from the Under the
Sea #1 Thinlits for each Mr. Bones. Die cut and assemble them, keeping note of
one of each of the creatures needs to be fully assembled and one really just
needs the base pieces and not all the details since it will be behind Mr.
Bones. ALSO, on the OCTOPUS, I die cut his head from the back of the Kraft
Stock so it would be facing the other way as I thought it would look better on
the mask for Mr. Bones. Cut the heads off the fully assembled sea creatures
since they will be a costume with a mask and body suit. On the dolphin, cut off
the head from the non-detailed body and either discard it or use it for another
project as you just need the body part. Die cut the smallest fish and all its
parts using the same two shades of gray on the head stones. Assemble them and adhere
them to the head stones, after inking the edges in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.
Ink the edges of the
jellyfish in Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink, the dolphin in Salvaged Patina, and
the Octopus in Wilted Violet. Using Collage Medium, adhere the non-detailed sea
creature body to the back of Mr. Bones. Adhere the detailed body to the top of
Mr. Bones. For the heads of the sea creatures to look like a hood (octopus) or
a mask (dolphin and jelly fish) either adhere the hood on or staple a black
string to the mask and then adhere to Mr. Bones' head and wrap the string
around and secure it to the back with tape. Set these all aside.
For the buckets, add two sided tape to the
back of Kraft Stock to use to die cut the trick-or-treat bucket from the Trick
or Treaters Thinlits. Die cut as many as you need (I did three.) and assemble
them. Add them to the right hands of each of the Mr. Bones with Collage Medium.
Set these aside.
For
the trees, using about
a 3 x 6 inch piece of White Heavystock (enough for three of the leaves to be
used as trees), ink over it with the same Distress Inks used for the sea
creatures, and then mist them lightly with Carved Pumpkin and Fossilized Amber
Distress Spray Stain. Use a heat tool to dry this while flicking some water on
it for a mottled look.
Die cut the leaves (I
used the second to largest leaf and cut three.) from the Heavystock using the
Leaf Fragments Thinlits.
Ink the edges and
openings in the leaf with Gathered Twigs, and ink over the stem heavily so it
looks more like a trunk of a tree. Lightly mist the trees with Flickering
Candle Distress Mica Stain after shaking it well. Remember to always clean the
nozzle after using it to keep it from clogging the next time. Let these dry. Set
these aside.
For the moon, die cut the medium circle
from the Sized Circles Movers and Shapers Dies from Distress Watercolor
Cardstock. Ink over it lightly with a little Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and
Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide. Mist it heavily with water and blot off the excess with a paper towel to
move the inks, and dry it. Cut it into thirds, and ink the edges in the Hickory
Smoke. Set these aside.
For
the sentiments, add two
sided tape to the back of orange Kraft Stock, and then die cut the letters 'O
FISH ALLY' for each tag you want using the Label Alphanumeric Thinlits. Use a
die pick to carefully remove the letters from the dies.
Stamp the phrase 'Got
Candy?' from the Spring Shadows Stamp Set from Stamper's Anonymous onto White
Heavystock using Black Soot Archival and a small stamping block (one per tag).
Choose the words 'it's Halloween' from the Chit Chat Stickers and mount them
onto purple Kraft Stock, after inking the edges in Gathered Twigs. Set all the
wording aside.
For the tag backgrounds, using #8 Black Cardstock
Tags, mist over them heavily using Flickering Candle and Hocus Pocus Distress
Mica Spray Stain after shaking them. Take the Jack-o-Lantern Mica Spray Stain
and shake it up, then remove the top and shake the top over the tag so that
drops of the mica splatter out of the tube over the tag. Use a sticky note to
mask off the bottom 2 inches or so of the tag. Shake up Picket Fence Distress
Paint and remove the top. Insert a paintbrush into the paint and then shake the
paintbrush over the tag portion where the sticky note is not to make stars in
the sky area. Let these dry or use a heat tool. Clean the brush and the nozzles
of the mica.
Remove
the sticky note and ink over that area heavily with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink
so it's darker than the sky area and now it's land area. Start assembling the pieces onto the tag using Collage Medium, starting
with the moon in the top left corner. Trim off the pieces of the moon that are
hanging off the tag. Adhere the tree next so the tip of it is in the moon area.
Adhere the head stone so that it's covering up the bottom of the trunk of the
tree but still showing most of the trunk, and then the clump off dirt under the
head stone. Add Mr. Bones in costume next, and then the wording up in the sky
area with 'Got Candy' below.
To finish the tags, add Glossy Accents over
the letters 'O FISH ALLY' to highlight them a little better. Use coordinating
Stickles on the costumes and bucket for a little more glitz. I used Black
Diamond on the eyes and nose of the bucket, Neon Flamingo on the jelly fish,
Peacock on the dolphin, and Lavender on the octopus. Let dry. Tie string to the
tag holes and then add the candy (Swedish Fish) to the back of tag with the
string.
