On The Wings Of A Parrot

Linda Coughlin of the Funkie Junkie, is hosting the challenge at Frilly and Funkie this fortnight.  It's an inspiration photo challenge and you can interpret it any way you like. What an amazing photograph!!!! I can't wait to see what all of you come up with.
Please check out the other Design Team's ultra gorgeous projects. I was so inspired by all of them. I am so fortunate to be apart of this very talented team.
Linda Coughlin - The Funkie Junkie
Marjie Kemper - She Who Stamps and Scraps
Teresa Kline - Paperie Blooms
Terry Horrall -  Terry's Work In Progress
Sue Carrington - Stamping Sue Style
Tammy Roberts - Paperie Sweetness
When I saw the inspiration photo, I instantly knew I wanted wings, color, and a tropical feeling something or another. I didn't have a parrot stamp, and I didn't want to print an image of one off the internet, so I decided to make my own. I've never worked with corrugated paper like this before, so it was all a learning process and somewhat difficult, but I am so glad I went with it because I am in love with this project!!! I wanted to make this piece for the Everything Wendy Vecchi Yahoo Group challenge of "bright colors" as well, so the background was a lot easier to design as I knew what I would be using.
I used Dylusions Ink Sprays to cover the Wendy Large Flourish Frame Art Part (more on this technique next week).
I heat embossed the flourish design in Gold Embossing Powder using an Embossing Pen.
I used the Dylusions to stamp the floral lace image....sort of looks like cheetah...cool!
I stamped the same image on top of the Dylusions using Snow Cap Pigment Ink.
I used a white pen to draw in border, and then I used Snow Cap Acrylic Paint to stamp the flower border image. I also added Gold Acrylic Paint to the centers of the background flowers...now it really looks like cheetah, although that was not my intention, but I like it.
I added stamen to the flower center with Sunshine Yellow Acrylic Paint. I didn't want the background to be crazy, Because I knew the parrot would be bold.
I free handed the cutting of the corrugated paper by looking at the printed image of the parrot. I had to recut to rescale the size many times to finally get it right. It is so not perfect, but I like the look of it.
I used the Dylusions Ink Sprays to color in the bird. I had to use my fingers as barriers to keep some parts clean. You should have seen my hands after I was finished. Man...I do love to craft!!!!
I used a paint brush and more acrylic paint to add some details.
I adhered all the parts and there you go. It looks pretty close to the image I think.
The sentiment was stamped in Jet Black Archival and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder onto Specialty Stamping Paper. The paper takes the heat excellently!
Linda really inspired me with her crinoline flower tutorial on the Friday's Focus at Frilly & Funkie, so I made a little one for this project. I love crinoline. It is super durable and really takes to cutting and dying well.

  9. When I first saw this I was totally stunned. I just kept staring at it. What an amazing, and I do mean amazing, piece of work, Anita! You did an incredible job recreating the parrot and the corrugated cardboard is so perfect for it - it just really mimics the feathers. Love that background too and thanks so much for showing how you did it. The snow cap stamping over the Dylusions stamping is a really cool technique and makes for a perfect BG for this piece. You totally ROCKED it and now I want one of those large Art Part frames :)

    Hugs,
    Linda
