Ranger Tim Holtz Pearl Disress Crayons Cards

How about the surprise on new Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Crayons?!! The creamy dreamy Pearl colors are wonderful. To show as much as the shimmery color as possible I kept these two real simple and blended the backgrounds with my fingers and watercolored in the embossed images. Enjoy!

Cut White Heavystock to 4.5 x 6 inches and 3.75 x 8.75 inches for two cards. Take the 4.5 x 6 inch piece and arrange the leaves from the Nature's Wonder Stamp Set from Stamper's Anonymous, around the edge of the card, and close the lid to secure the stamps, leaving a space for the small leaf as it will need to be stamped again. Pounce an anti-static pouch on the paper. Stamp the images in Distress Embossing Ink and heat emboss with Gold Powder.  Remove the small one  and place it back in the empty spot as well as a sentiment from the same set, and stamp those and heat emboss in gold. Leave the stamps in place in case you need to restamp later.

Take the 3.75 x 8.75 piece and arrange three large snowflakes from Swirly Snowflakes in the middle and the smaller ones from Mini Swirly Snowflakes around the border on the platform, and close the lid to secure the stamps. Stamp the images in Distress Embossing Ink and heat emboss with Silver Powder. Stamp a sentiment from the Nature's Wonder set on a separate piece of White Heavystock and emboss with silver, and cut out. Leave the stamps in place in case you need to restamp.

Color in the images on both card fronts with the new Pearl Distress Crayons and a Detail Water Brush, using the silicon mat as your palette.  I used the warm tones on the leaves, and the cool tones on the snowflakes.

Apply the cool tones crayons to the silicon mat, and pick up with your finger, and using the warmth of your finger to blend the crayons, rub the crayons over the card front, switching colors and blending them as you go. Do the same with the leaves card and warm tones. Completely cover the white areas of the card. Restamp any images if need be if the crayons cover up too much of the embossing as I had to restamp the leaves using Vintage Photo Archival to make them pop a little more. Mount the leaves card front to gold Metallic Kraftstock cut 4 7/8 x 6 3/8 inches then onto a kraft card base folded to 5 x 6.5 inches using two sided tape. Mount the snowflakes card front onto silver Metallic Kraftstock (12x12) cut to 4 1/8 x 9 1/8 inches and then to a kraft card base folded to 4.25 x 9.25 inches using two sided tape. Ink the edges of the card base with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

  1. I don’t know if the first comment posted. I didn’t have a “handle.” Thank you for your tutorial. Saw your snowflake card on Tim Holtz live. Made me gasp. Looked 3-D in the live. Beautiful! Will be trying this with the mica distress crayons.

  4. Enchantingly beautiful cards! The image showcasing both of them together made me grin, as the overlap of beguiling fall colours and winter's overeager return of snow is a common scene around these Canadian parts.

  7. Not so much surprise for me but more like shock! I would never have put these crayons together with Tim but they are fabulous (mine arrived today and I love them). I love the simplicity of your cards because the really show the depths of colour that can be achieved. Love them! Anne xxx
