Stamper's Anonymous Summer 2021 - Snarky Mod Cactus and Bold Sayings Card Trio

Hello All! Today, I have a trio of snarky all occasion type cards to show you made with the new Mod Cactus and Bold Sayings Stamps from Tim Holtz and Stamper's Anonymous. These where so super fun to make as I love adding a bit of snark to cards. Enjoy!

Using a Deckle Trimmer, cut Watercolor Paper from Ranger to  3 5/8 x 5 1/8  inches. Go ahead a cut a black cardstock mat to 3 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches with a paper trimmer, and a kraft card base to 4 x 5 1/2 inches, and mount the black on the kraft with two sided tape and set those aside.

Pick out the sentiments from the Snarky Small Chat and cut out. Ink the edges in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink, and mount on black cardstock adding a little Collage Medium for extra adherence. Cut around leaving a border of black. Lay the snarky sentiments in the middle of the watercolor panels, and arrange the cacti from the Mod Cactus Stamp Set from Stamper's Anonymous above the sentiments. Choose a Bold Saying from that set and place below the snarky sentiments, and make sure the two sayings go together to make sense. Once you have the arrangements for the cards, use a pencil to make a line at each side of the watercolor panels right where the middle of the pots from the cacti are positioned so you can determine the color break for the next part. Take the card fronts and lay the stamps and sentiments on them so you can remember the layout while you are working.

Using the silicon mat as a palette, add Speckled Egg Distress Ink straight from the pad to the mat heavily. Pick the ink up with a Broad Water Brush and paint in the sky area above your penciled mark, and leave a little white border. Do the same for all three panels. Clean that ink up, and add Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink to the palette, and then paint in the land area below the penciled mark. Erase the marks, and let the panels dry or use a heat tool.

Arrange the letters 'PRICKLY' from the Tall Text Stamp Set onto a medium stamping block. Stamp this at the top of the sky area in Speckled Egg Distress Ink on each panel. Take the large Nature Layering Stencil and lay it underneath the stamped word see how much you can stencil in of the first section of the design (The pattern repeats itself and you only need the first part of the pattern.) on the sky area before the land area starts. Place a sticky note over the part where the land starts and ink in as much as you can of the sky area with Speckled Egg and an ink blending tool. Remove the sticky note, and now place it over the sky area and ink in the land area with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink to complete the pattern. Stamp the 'PRICKLY' again but this time use Brushed Corduroy right below the stenciled design in the land area. Stencil in another part of the pattern from the Nature Layering Stencil below this in Brushed Corduroy to fill the rest of the land area. Lightly mist the panel with water to distress the stamping and stenciling for a watercolor like look. Repeat with the other panels and dry them thoroughly.

Place a panel in the platform and place the coordinating Bold Saying that goes with that panel on the paper and secure it by closing the lid. Stamp it several times using Black Soot Archival until it is nice and bold, and then after the last stamping add Clear Embossing Powder over it and heat emboss. Using a stamping platform is essential to get a nice crisp look especially when using watercolor paper. Do the same for the other two panels making sure to use the correct saying as you have laid out.

Place a panel back in the platform and arrange the two cacti that are the coordinating inside solid parts of the cacti, on the paper with the larger cactus in the middle and the smaller on the left side of it, making sure there is room to stamp the smaller cactus again on the right side later. Secure the stamps by closing the lid. Place a sticky note over the cactus parts leaving only the pots portions showing, and ink the pots with Crackling Campfire Distress Oxide, remove the sticky note and then stamp onto the panel. Stamp twice to get a nice dark image.

Use the sticky note to now cover up the pots, and ink over the cacti in Salvaged Patina Oxide, remove the note and stamp onto the panel. Repeat with Twisted Citron Oxide just inking portions of the cacti, and stamp, and do the same with Rustic Wilderness Oxide, so the cacti will look mottled with all three colors. Remove the middle cactus and add the smaller cactus to the right side and repeat all the steps to stamp it.

Remove the solid stamp and add the outline cacti stamps on top of the coordinating solid images and close the lid to secure. Stamp the outline cacti in Black Soot Archival a few times until nice and bold. Remove the middle cactus and add the smaller to the right side and stamp. Do the same thing with the other panels and cacti images that you've laid out before.

Add the snarky sentiments to the cards in between the cacti and Bold Saying using Collage Medium. Using Crackling Campfire Distress Crayon and the silicon mat as your palette, color in the blank parts of the pots and along the pots borders with a Detail Water Brush on all the cards. Use a Twisted Citron crayon and color along the borders of the cactus, and finally use a Salvaged Patina Distress Ink (since there is no crayon yet) added to the mat and pick up with the brush to color in the blank parts of the cacti. Ink the edges of the panel with Speckled Egg Distress on the sky area borders and Brushed Corduroy to the land area borders. Ink the edges of the kraft card with Gathered Twigs and have those ready for the last part.

For the flowers of the cacti it is best to cut the stamps apart to make it a little easier. Stamp the flowers first in Distress Oxide and when dry paint them in with the coordinating Distress Paint so they are opaque and you can't see the lines of the cacti underneath, with a detail paint brush. I used Crackling Campfire, Barn Door, Squeezed Lemonade, and Picked Raspberry for the flowers. Paint in the centers of the flowers as well for a finished look using Picket Fence and or Squeezed Lemonade. When dry, mount the panels on the front of the kraft card base.

  6. These are thoroughly awesome! Living in a region which is the closest landscape Canada has to an arid desert, we're lucky to have both cactuses and succulents growing wild around these parts. Seeing these fantastic designs reminds me to honour this fact more often in my own paper crafting projects (TY!).
