Hello All! Today, I have a project for Eileen Hull's monthly theme, Season's Greetings, using the new Sizzix Chapter Four Die, Post Box, along with an oldie Bigz Die, Bird. I decided to go industrial punk on this one so I needed even more dies from Tim Holtz. This was an absolute blast to make. Enjoy, and beware the post is heavy laden with photos, although a little dreary as the weather has made photo taking a little hard.
I don't have my tree up yet, so this is hanging on the lamp in the Crafty Cave.
Die
cut the Post Box using Matboard and then again in Foil Cardstock. Run the Foil
Cardstock through a Mechanics 3D Texture Fade. Die cut the Bird using Foil
Cardstock and run through the Foundry 3D Texture Fade.
Die
cut the bow tie from Winter Wardrobe using Foil Cardstock as well as Steampunk
Parts, and set these aside.
Adhere
the Mechanics cardstock to the matboard using two sided tape and Collage
Medium. Following the shape of the closure flap, trim away about 1/2 of it to
make more area for the bird...sad to do but necessary. Apply Black Soot Distress Paint to Mechanics
and run into all the embossed areas with your finger, working in small areas.
Lightly rub off the paint on the raised areas with your finger or a paper
towel, and move on to a new area until whole Post Box is covered. Paint over
the edges of everything as well.
Punch
a hole on the side of the Post Box in the middle of the upper edge that will be
on the outside of the box for the picture hanger. Insert brad and secure. Do
the same with the opposite side. The back of the brad will be covered up by the
sides on the inside of the box. Die cut the Christmas paper with the Post Box
die, and adhere paper with two sided tape. Fold and adhere box together using
two sided tape and Collage Medium for extra strength. Add the chain on the
picture hangers with jumprings.
Pounce
on Crimson and Rosewood Alcohol Ink to the Bird, wings, and bow tie pieces. (Note:
I originally was going to add the top hat, but it just didn't fit well on the
small space with the box flap.) Pounce on Gold Mixative to the larger circle
from Steampunk Parts, the four hexagon pieces, as well as the beak of the bird.
Adhere the ring, four silver caps, hexagons, and four Hardware Heads onto the
large circle with Collage Medium. Apply Black Soot paint to the bird, wings,
eye of the bird, and the Steampunk piece pushing the paint into all the
recessed areas and wipe off extra just as you did above.
(I
got so caught up making this that I forgot to take photos...sorry.) Adhere the
Steampunk piece to the front bottom of the box using foam tape. Adhere beak and
eye to bird using Collage Medium, as well as the front wing only. Add a tiny
gear to eye. Apply dots of Gold Leafing pen to the raised screws on the bird
from the Texture Fade. Scribble Tarnished Brass Crayon into the recessed area
of the '25' number brad and wipe off any on the raised edges. Punch hole in the
middle area of the front flap of the box. Add the Swivel clap and gears to the
brad and in through the hole and secure brad in place. Punch a hole in the
middle of the round wing area and push the back of the Hitch Fastener through.
Add on gears and then the hitch and screw to tighten. Adhere back wing on with
Collage Medium. add a little clump of spanish moss to the bottom of the
Steampunk piece with tape and medium if need be. Adhere bird over this using
foam tape. Make sure Swivel Clasp connects well to the Hitch Fastener. You may
need to take out a few chain links with pliers to get a good length fit. Adhere
the bow tie (it has three pieces so don't forget all of them) on the bird with
Collage Medium. Adhere 'special delivery' ephemera to top of box with Collage
Medium. Pounce on Crimson and Rosewood onto a flower, and Gold Mixative onto
the leaves. Attach them to each other with a Long Fastener, and adhere to the
top of the box with Collage Medium.
