Industrial Thankful Card Mini Clipboards

Hello everyone. Instead of giving a typical card for Thanksgiving, I decided to mix it up a bit and add the card to a Tim Holtz Idea-ology Clipboard that can be used without the card in it later. I had some metal pumpkins in my stash too, so those insisted on giving these a punky industrial flavor, and of course I had to make more than one. This is a long post so grab sustenance. Enjoy!

As per Tim's Fall Vibes Demo, create a background on a full size sheet of 110 lb. Ivory Heavystock using Crackling Campfire, Speckled Egg, and Fossilized Amber Distress Ink with a Distress Sprayer filled with water using the Glass Mat. Add layers of Speckled Egg Distress Oxide on top, misting with water, and repeating layering until you like the look. Repeat with another full sheet of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock. Let these both dry. (Note: I made four clipboards so that is why I needed two sheets of Heavystock.)

Using Baseboard Frames (I used one from regular Baseboard Frames, and one from the Christmas Baseboard Frames, two packs for a total of four frames.) as a guide, trim one of the sheets of Heavystock into four pieces to fit behind the frames (3.5 x 5 inches). Run each piece into the Elegant 3D Texture Fade (lightly misted with water and run through the machine three times). Lightly rub the pad of Orange Marmalade Archival Ink over the raised embossing, and then rub Vintage Photo over to further bring out the design.

Using your finger, lightly rub Micro Glaze over the background ink behind the raised image to bring out the colors and layers of ink. The one on the right has the Micro Glaze on it, and you can see the brighter colors.  Run the pieces through the Elegant Texture Fade again to fix the embossing in case the raised designs were altered after inking over them. Set these aside.

Take the Baseboard Frames, lightly rub over them using steel wool. The colors will soften and the shiny will not be as shiny (you can see one of the frames went from greenish to blueish and that was a happy accident). Clean off residue.

Ink the edges of the frames with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Rub the Speckled Egg Distress pad directly over the frames, coating well, and then pour Speckled Egg Embossing Glaze over, shake off excess onto a scrap piece of paper, and heat emboss. Do this for each frame. Adhere Elegant embossed pieces to the back of the frame so the embossing is seen using two sided tape. Cover the back with paper if desire. Set these aside.

Remove the clip from the Clipboard with a screw driver. Set the boards aside for now. (Note: I had four metal rusted pumpkins in my stash purchased at a flea market, but you can use Tim's Sizzix Pumpkin Patch Bigz Die as it looks similar to the metal pumpkins if you don't have those). Using Alcohol Ink, I tried to match the pumpkins to the clips.) Using Espresso, Caramel, Sepia, and Valencia Alcohol Inks, apply drips to the clips and pounce paper towel over until you reach the rusted desired look on the clips and hitch fasteners.

Apply Embossing Ink over the clips just using your finger, and pour Crackling Campfire Embossing Glaze over, shake off excess, and heat emboss. Do the same with the pumpkins. I initially tried doing the hitch fasteners but they were so tiny,  so I ended up not doing all of them. Embossed metal gets hot hot hot, so please be careful. When cool, use steel wool to lightly take away a little bit of shine in a few areas. Add Sepia Alcohol Ink to any places that didn't get enough glaze. Set these aside.

Apply a Vintage Photo Archival Ink pad directly to the borders of the board and ink around the borders of both sides plus the edges. Cut pieces of Departed Paper Stash to fit the front and back of each board, and round corners. Ink edges of the papers and adhere to fronts (use a hole punch to punch holes before adhering back), and backs of each board using two sided tape or Collage Medium. Punch the holes, and then add the clips back on and secure screws with a screwdriver. Set aside.

Gather Fluted Fasteners, Mini Fasteners, Ring Fasteners, and Chain Tassels and apply Sepia Alcohol Ink to some areas or completely if silver or gold. Using an ivory colored piece of velum, run through the Thankful Texture Fade only on the 'Thankful' portion. Trim around closely, and ink edges with Vintage Photo. Place the vellum over the Baseboard Frame and punch mini holes where the fasteners will go through. Place a Fluted Fastener with Mini Fastener through hole on the left, and Ring Fastener with Chain Tassel attached to hole on the right.

Gather cooper wire, Mini and Sprocket Gears, and ink with Sepia Alcohol Ink. Adhere to clip and pumpkin with Collage Medium. Let this dry completely. Use wire to weave through middle hole of the gears on the pumpkin, coming out of the back, and wrap wire around pumpkin stem. Curl wire around a craft pick for coils to look like the pumpkin vine. Ink edges of Paper Doll, and color in clothes with Distress Crayon. Adhere to pumpkin with Collage Medium, and set aside.

Die cut various leaves from the extra sheet of inked Heavystock using 3D Leaf, Skeleton Leaves, Fall Foliage, and Leaf Print. Ink edges with Vintage Photo and run pad over embossed areas. Mist with Antiqued Bronze Mica Spray. Arrange leaves around where pumpkin will go and adhere with Collage Medium. Place small 3D Leaf on coiled cooper wire with Collage Medium and let dry. Add foam tape on back of small leaf, and then adhere pumpkin with Collage Medium and foam tape. Let dry completely.
