Heart With Wings and Alcohol Ink Masterboard Valentine Cards With a Treat

Hey Everyone! Kitsch Flamingo from Tim Holtz and Ranger just arrived in the house, and I was in the middle of family Valentine makes, so it was the perfect time to break this gorgeous pink color open. I LOVE it! Even though I made the background of these cards with Alcohol Ink, the Distress Kitsch Flamingo heart blended in perfectly. These cards were super fun to make, fast to do, and so easy as they were assembly line style after making a masterboard for the background. AND, they house a little Valentine treat on the back.  Enjoy!

Using a piece of 12x12 Glossy Cardstock for the masterboard, I pounced on Shell Pink, Flamingo, Watermelon, and Rosewood Alcohol Inks that were all added to the felt of an Alcohol Ink Blending Tool, just making about a dime sized dot of each color and on two places on the felt. I was able to cover the whole piece only adding the ink once.

I shook up both Alloys, and working in a corner at a time, I squiggled on the Gilded first, and used the same piece of felt on the tool, I pounced over the squiggled color. If it was too concentrated a added Mined over the top and pounced over that to soften the gold. I did the whole piece doing this.

Then I added drops of the same four Alcohol Inks I started with, randomly adding the drops until I liked the look. Doing this made the Alloys break up and border the drops...such a cool look. I let the paper sit about an hour.

I added the large Valentine word stamp to a large stamping block and inked it with Jet Black, and stamped the wording in the upper left corner. I repeated the stamping across the paper and then made another row, lining up best I could, and finished with a small portion of the stamp on the bottom row. I let this dry about 30 minutes.

Here is the masterboard before cutting. I think it was so beautiful, and it was hard to cut because I liked it so much, but I cut it into 12 equal pieces, 3 x 4 inches using a paper trimmer, so I will have 12 cards. This is what is so cool about making a masterboard...it makes assembly line cards so easy and fast. I inked the edges of all of them with Jet Black and an ink blending tool. Then I mounted them onto light pink cardstock just leaving a tiny border showing.

Using the Winged 3D Impresslit, I die cut and embossed the wings using gold Metallic Kraft Stock, misting the cardstock lightly with water before running through the machine. These 3D embossing folders are the best, and talk about detail. I love that this one cuts and embosses multiple layers at the same time, brilliant. I made 12 of course.

I scribbled over the wings lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Crayon, and then dabbed my finger in a little water to move the crayon over the wings and into the cracks of the wings to further highlight the details. I used a slightly damp paper towel to remove the crayon from the top areas that are not embossed.

I cut 12 pieces of black cardstock to 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches for the card base (it's flat and not folded like a traditional card).  Instead of adhering the lollipops, I used a hole punch to make two holes at the center bottom for the stick to be woven through to hold the candy. I added the Alcohol Inked paper on the front, only adhering on the edges with two sided tape so the pop will easily come out.

Using White Heavystock, I die cut the large thinner heart from the Heartstruck die, doing 12. I laid the 12 hearts over paper towel and misted them first with Kitsch Flamingo Distress Spray Stain then Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide Spray. While wet, I shook the Tarnished Brass Distress Spray Stain, and unscrewed the lid and flicked the tube of the spray over the hearts to create droplets of gold. Then I lightly misted the hearts with water to oxidize and blend, then I dried with a heat tool.

I placed the hearts into the Swirls Multi Level Texture Fade and embossed them. I ran the pad of Distress Kitsch Flamingo Ink directly over the hearts, and then poured on Kitsch Flamingo Embossing Glaze. I heat set the glaze, and then inked the edges of the hearts with Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink. I adhered the hearts onto the center of the wings with two sided tape, and added foam tape to the back and adhered these onto the card fronts at an angle. I added Chit Chat Stickers to black cardstock, cut them out, and adhered them to the centers of the hearts.
