Happy Saturday crafty peeps! Over at
Frilly & Funkie, it's my turn to host the
Saturday StepXStep (To see the tutorial click the link.). I decided to do a tutorial for embossing the
Vintaj Blank shapes using
Sizzix Deco Emboss plates and then painting them with the Vintaj Patinas, because it seems there are many who don't know how to do it, and I didn't either until I learned at
Ranger U. I'm sure I've mentioned it before but just in case you don't know, "I love metals!" So click on over to
F&F to see the tutorial to make the metal pieces seen here. The rest of the makes is here so don't go yet.
I used two jumbo sized tags. The first one I sprayed with Ranger's Adirondack Color Wash in Butterscotch, then misted it with my new favorite Perfect Pearls Mist Sunflower Sparkle. I love the vibrant gold it gives to surfaces without being too overpowering. |
I embossed half of the tag with a portion of the Sizzix Tim Holtz Thankful Background, and will use the other for the Borders as seen a little further down. |
I inked the raised parts with Bundled Sage and Walnut Stain Distress Inks, then tore at the edges. |

The other tag was sprayed with Sailboat Blue Color Wash and immediately misted with water to even out the color. |
I wanted the blue on this tag to match the blue of the Vintaj Patinas on my metal pieces, but it didn't. Thankfully I didn't have my craft sheet cleaned up yet from my Vintaj painting, and I still had a pile of the blue I mixed up but it was already hard as a rock. I wondered what would happen if I added water to it, so I did and let it set there for a bit. I used a paper towel and started to poke at the moistened pile, and what do you know, I picked up color. It was still crusty but the paint was still very usable. I pounced on the now colored paper towel onto the tag, and matched my blues perfectly. I was thrilled at the results! Don't waste those piles of hardened paint!!!! |
I embossed the Thankful Pumpkin Border onto the blue tag. |
I colored in the raised areas with Distress Markers and then lightly misted the tag with Sunflower Sparkle, then inked the raised portions and edges with Walnut Stain. |
I covered up the embossed pumpkin area with a paper towel, and stamped the correlating Thankful image on to the tag using Ranger's Adirondack Acrylic Gold Paint Dabber. I LOVE how this looks in the gold! |
With the other piece of gold tag, I embossed the Foliage Border twice and colored the images in with Distress Markers. I inked the raised portions with Walnut Stain, and then tore the edges. I adhered the gold portions onto the blue tag. |
I color washed seam binding with Butterscotch, dried it, tied it on, and added the Vintaj Metal embellishments to complete the tag. |
I am submitting this tag to the
Blogger's Challenge of "Bring On Fall".
