12 Tags of 2014 - October

Hey there everyone! I'm back and before the end of the month, to show you my October tag for Tim's 12 Tags of 2014. He used so many techniques that I love on his tag, and I of course had to do the same, however, I was also inspired by some pumpkins I recently saw in a Grandin Road Catalog.
I just love the non-traditional pumpkins they have in their catalog, so I made a few of my own, but with paper!
The photos just don't do the pumpkins or the backgrounds justice. I either need a photography class or a new camera.

I love Tim's new Pumpkin Parts Sizzix die! It was so easy to put together. I die cut these from scrap cardboard, and gave them all a few coats of White Picket Distress Paint.
Using a Mini Inking Blending Tool and Pitch Black Distress Paint, I stenciled in the designs onto the pumpkins. The trick to doing this is using very little paint, and making sure the paint is thoroughly in the pad.
I added a little Distress Paint to the edges of the Alpha Tiles, and then added Distress Glitter.
I used the 31 instead of the spider, and used Brushed Pewter and Black Soot Spray Distress Stain. I thought it needed a little more color, so a Spiced Marmalade Distress Marker and Marker Spritzer did the trick!
The Mini Blueprint Pumpkins didn't require much color since I wanted them white, but Pumice Stone Distress Marker provided great shadow.
I love Orange Peel Stickles the best! The color is opaque rather than just glitter, and I love that! It highlighted each pumpkin just the way I wanted.
I have had these leaves in my stash a zillion years, but they were the wrong color. Ranger's Alcohol Ink colored them right up.

I have a zillion family recipes around my kitchen, and many are from my Husband's Grandmother and my Mother. The problem is, they are everywhere and not organized or in one place to find easily. So I decided to make an album to house them all, and I will pass this down to my daughter some day. Please keep in mind that this is a work in progress, and today you will only see the cover. Who knows... I will probably change it up a bit once I add the guts. I knew I definitely wanted it vintage looking...like it came out of our Grandmother's kitchen.  I LOVE it so far, and I wish the photos I took did it more justice.
I wanted a real grungy vintage look on this, and thought a circular window would fit the bill. I used an actual recipe card from Grandmother and die cut it with Tim's Sizzix Sized Circles. I cover it with a piece of Mica that was also die cut. I LOVE that you can die cut Mica...I always forget to use it, and it really has great vintage possibilities.
The best cookbooks have checks on them!!! So of course I had to add checks. Wendy Vecchi's Check Mate Stencil fit the bill, and I used Archival Ink to color it in after I taped off the areas I didn't want ink on.
After the checks where all stenciled in, I covered them with Ranger's Glossy Accents to give a little sheen and protect them from any other mediums I would add later.
I taped off some other areas I didn't want covered, and I added Wendy's Crackled Texture Paste through Tim's Latticework Stencil, that I first colored with Tea Dye Distress ReInker.
Once it crackled and dried, I laid the stencil back over and added more Archival Ink on the crackle plus on the cover itself. I LOVE the look!
I wanted more brown tones, and thought the easiest way to do so was to use the new Tea Dye Distress Spray Stain! I LOVE how it seeped into the cracks and highlighted it, plus added the perfect vintage tone. I'm hooked on Spray Stains!!!
I punched holes for the handle on the front and the elastic on the back that will hook over the handle to keep the book closed. So easy.
I just love Tim's Letterpress blocks! I think they totally made the front of this. I colored them with Distress Paint. I thought the cover needed more, so I outlined all the scroll work and frame with Glossy Accents. It really made things pop! I LOVE the effect. I also added rub ons, the utensils, and finally the rest of the title using Alpha Parts.

If you couldn't tell from all the uses of LOVE, I love how this came out. I hope you join in on the fun, and since this challenge is using a particular product instead of a technique, please feel free to show us the steps you used when altering your Worn Cover. Have an inky time!
