CHA 2016 - Recap 4 (Designers in Action)

Hello again this week! Today, is the recap of the CHA Designer's In Action. It's a booth that houses the work of CHA Designers that choose to participate, in a gallery type way.  Every one has a four foot square pedestal or board to display whatever they choose, and show participants come visit and view the work, and hopefully connections are made for work opportunities. We host coffees, meetings, meet and greets, and demos. It's a great place to hang out in as well.
Here I am in front of my booth, photo courtesy of Marjie Kemper. Not a good photo, but a great outfit so I included it!!! ;0) Not Marjie's fault though, just a fake smile, and I don't like that.
We each have a poster board with all our info on it. I stole mine...okay, it was mine to keep!
This year, I decided to show some of the classes I taught, some published pieces, and a few of my favorites all from 2015. The notepad with the scissors on it, must have been a favorite, as several sheets of it kept disappearing, my notes and all. Ugh! But...all the notes I did receive were absolutely lovely!

It's all a crazy mish mash of my work, but that's how I roll. I was told I had a style...'Vintage with Color'. That blew my mind! I always thought I didn't have a certain style, but now I can kind of see that. I like it!
This giant sign listed all of our activities! It was so professional looking!
I thought I took photos of all the booths, but these were all that ended up the camera...hmmm.

That's it for today. Tomorrow is my last CHA post...aren't you glad? I'll bring you a few shots of the people and sights that I had time to selfie with and see!
I hope your hands get creatively dirty soon!

CHA 2016 - Recap 3 (Eileen Hull and Maya Road)

I'm back for Recap 3!!! I was so fortunate to be able to demo for Eileen Hull in her Scotty Booth, and for Caroline Lau of Maya Road in the Designer's Showcase Booth. To say that I was busy while at the show, is an understatement, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Thank you ladies for having me!!!
This was the Scotty Booth. Talk about cute cute cute! You just wanted to plant yourself there and camp out a while! Eileen had lots of minions everywhere...Karen Bearse, Susie Bentz, Beth Watson....thanks ladies!
I demoed Eileen's new Twist and Style Tool. Talk about cool! You can twist wire, yarn, embroidering thread, just about any kind of string, into all kinds of stuff. I made earrings, flowers, tags, words, bracelets...I could have played with it for hours. Everyone was intrigued with it!
I forgot to take better photos before I handed these to Eileen, and hopefully she has some, but I created a bouquet of steampunk flowers, and a metalicious tag with more flowers, using the tool and her new Heart Petal Flowers from Sizzix.  I did however take step out photos of how I created the flowers.
Her new die has three shapes of flowers that can nest together or use apart. I cut die Ranger's Silver Cardstock using it, and then embossed the flowers with some of Tim's industrial looking Texture Fades from Sizzix.
Then I got painty coating all of the flowers with Black Tie Paint Dabber. When they were dry, I sanded them a bit to reveal some of the silver.
I also inked over the silver portions with Wendy's Tree Branch Archival.
To prepare the stem, I doubled wire, and strung it through an Idea-ology Mini Gear, placing it in the center of my wire, that was cut about a yard long.
I wanted the flowers to look a little fluted, so I cut a petal from each, and then fold them over and secured them with adhesive tape.
I nested the flowers littlest to biggest and strung them on the wire, pushing them to the gear. Then I strung on a small gear charm that dangled underneath the flower.
(NOTE: This is not what her new tool looks like. This was the actual prototype that she used to design hers, which is much better, has an anchor, and ergonomic handle...so cool!) Then I placed the wire on the end of the tool, and held it in place while I turned the tool.
This is a fuzzy photo, but the gold and silver wire was now twisted and had a look like rope..addicting!
I even added jump rings while twisting the wire to create places to hang charms from. AND, I wrapped the twisted wire over a dowel to create loops to add to the bouquet. AND..I used the twisted wire to create the word 'Love' that I added to the tag (Not seen above.). Can you feel my excitement?!! My mind was reeling with ideas for this tool...the possibilities are endless.   It's super fun!

Here is the Maya Road Booth, run by Caroline and her minions, Julia Stainton and Laura, and my bestie Carolyn, from The Crafty Scrapper (How I have no selfie of us is a mystery!), was also her helper bee but not shown in this photo! Caroline came out with a whole bunch of new goodies and 26 new powdered coated steel dies, that are painted Tiffany Blue!!!
Here I am demoing the new dies, and my friend Johnna from Scrappy Camper Sisters came to watch and I couldn't open my eyes! Bad photo!!! I demoed several dies, but my favorites are the mosaic looking flowers and all the fanciful font words. I made a few tags and cards, that you can sort of see, but of course I forgot to take photos. You can see the beautiful blue dies on the table. Funny story...well not really...Caroline came to video me demoing the dies, and I turned into a bumbling idiot. I guess I was nervous, and not to mention tired, because I even turned the base die plate backwards, couldn't get it to cut obviously, and it took me awhile to figure it out. Caroline had to stop filming three times, and we never got the video done. Talk about embarrassing! I'm so sorry Caroline! Let's do it again!

That's it for today. Tomorrow I'll be showing you the Designers in Action Booth, and my Booth, and then I'll have one more recap after that! Until tomorrow...

CHA 2016 - Recap 2 (Ranger Designer Challenge)

I'm back...a little later than I said, sorry...I've been preparing for taxes...yuck! Anywho, here are all the wonderful pieces of Art that were included in the 2016 Ranger Ink Designer's Challenge. They were all wonderful, and I'm sure everyone (I know I was!!!) was honored to be asked to use Tim Holtz's new Distress Crayons! They are WONDERFUL to use, and I need every color! Each of us were only given one pack, #8 tags to use, and Dina Wakley's new Media Board for the substrate, and then left to discover on our own. Pure JOY I tell you! I've also included the tutorial for how I created mine titled "Roses are Red", so grab some sustenance!!!

2016 Ranger Ink Designer's Challenge - Distress Crayons

Aren't they all so unique and different?!! I love love love to see everyone's style, and the way we've all used the same goods, but they are all completely different.

I took inspiration from my own den! The bricks were modeled after the ones on my fireplace, which I painted years ago, and the table too, which I inherited from my Grandparents. Then I took my favorite color red (I used the whole crayon up!!!) to create the roses, and inserted them into a wax vase, YES WAX!
I used Glue N Seal to adhere dictionary pages to Wendy's Clearly for Art for the roses.
I mashed up some of the Festive Berries Distress Crayon (So super luscious and soft!) and mixed it with water to make a paint.
I die cut the Clearly for Art with Tim's Sizzix large and small Tattered Pinecones, and painted them with the Festive Berries Crayon. I did the same with the leaves from the Garden Greens die.
To make the table, I adhered chipboard to Tim's Core'dinations cardstock and die cut the pieces with Vintage Cabinet Card die, and then layered them onto themselves for a 3D beveled table look.
I colored the table with stripes of Festive Berries, and then coated the whole thing with Black Tie Paint Dabber. Then I used a paper towel to wipe away the paint that was resisted from the crayon. COOL!
I coated Dina's Media Board with her white Gesso, let that dry, and then adhered some music note strips with Clear Gesso, added Wendy's Gold Embossing Paste, and some torn tags onto it, which made for great texture. Then I stared and stared at the board, waiting for a new idea.
I colored each leaf with mixtures of Festive Berries, Rusty Hinge, Fossilized Amber, and Peeled Paint Distress Crayons, and use a Bold Water Brush to watercolor the look. I shaped them and the roses with a Heat It Tool. I also hot glued the roses to flower making stems.
Back to the substrate, I decided to smudge on Fossilized Amber Crayon with my finger all over the board, darker in some areas and lighter, then I did some stamping with Tim's Stamper's Anonymous script from the Letters to Santa stamp set with Wendy's Watering Can Archival. Then I smashed up some more Distress Crayon and added it to Wendy's White Embossing Paste, and spread it through Tim's Brick Layering Stencil here and there. I didn't like how orange the bricks were, so when it dried, I coated them with Fossilized Amber Distress Crayon with a baby wipe. I added dots of Paint Dabber here and there on the bricks, and outlined them with a Hickory Smoke Distress Marker. Then I loved them!
I make the vase, I coated a #8 tag with white Gesso, and then colored on stems with the Peeled Paint Crayon, then coated the whole thing with clear wax from the Melt It Pot. I fused that, and then laid Tim's Gothic Stencil over it, and brushed on more wax over the stencil. LOVE!!! I cleaned the stencil between strips of newsprint using an iron. So COOL!!! I fused that, and then rubbed the Chipped Sapphire Crayon all over the tag to get into all the cracks. Using the warmth of my finger, I moved the crayon all over and smudged it where I wanted it. Once it was dry, I rubbed the Platinum Foil Sheet over it here and there to give it a little sparkle. Then I colored some Gum Drops with Cloudy Blue Alcohol Ink, and adhered them onto the vase. I used pieces of Wendy's Art Part material to form a pocket on the back of the vase to slide the flowers into.
I found an old knitted doily, and adhered the table top and doily on, and then stamped the 'Art' wording image all over the canvas with Tree Branch Archival. Yes, I cut the stamp apart from 'Artist' to 'Art'...it's all good. Then I adhered the vase, tucked the flowers in, and die cut the 'love' words from Tim's Handwritten Love Thinlets, the heart from the Mixed Media Thinlets, sanded and inked those, and added the Small Talk Stickers. Finished!!!!

Thank you Ranger and Tim for asking me to be a part of this!!! I was so so so honored, and it was just a joy to my creative heart!
