Alternate July Tag
First July Tag

A new month equals a new tag by Tim Holtz! I adore this technique so much, and couldn't wait to get started. So after I chased the dog and cat around with my compressed air can, I got to work.
For my first tag I pretty much mimicked Tim's, except for my background stamping. I added the silver Alcohol Ink a little too low so it overpowered my Archival Ink. I had to use a Sharpie to color in a few spots to make Lady Liberty a little more dark and stand out more. I didn't like that at all...craft and learn!
I had so much fun blowing 'cold' air, that I kept going and made some ATCs as well.

BUT...then I started to wonder what would happen if I tried the same technique on a black tag to emulate the night sky. I knew the Alcohol Ink would not glide over the surface of a black tag like it does on Glossy Cardstock and it would not show up very well, but I had to give it a shot.
I decided to use Snow Cap Mixative instead of the silver and then layer my other colors on top of it. It took a few layers but it worked. I wanted to really highlight the fireworks so I drew in some bursts with Glaze Pens. I love how it came out!
I trimmed out the edge with Snow Cap Paint Dabber, as well as added the stars and sentiment with the paint. I have had a craft love affair with denim lately so I had to add some of that too. It's such a simple looking tag and took no time at all, but I am so in love with it! That is strange for me, because I always love my most labor intensive projects and rarely love the simple ones. I think it is because it really has that fire cracker night sky look.

I am submitting the first tag to Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stamper challenge of "Silver", and the alternate tag to the Blogger's Challenge of "4th Of July", and both to Inspiration Journal's challenge of "Red, White, & Blue".

A Honey Of A Tag!

This week at Our Creative Corner, Kristin Tierney of Lily Beth Boutique is hosting again. Kristen's challenge is "Baking Beauties". She says, "I'm obsessed with beautiful cookies and fancy cakes!  I always try to make them myself, but generally fall a bit short. Your challenge this week is to make a creation based on these delish looking treats. There is a catch though. You MUST use something you would use when baking in your project.  Get creative...think food coloring, paper liners, sprinkles, etc.  Know any cool techniques with egg whites, flour, or sugar?  You need to explain your ingredient in your description of your creation as well."
Please check out all the other Design Team's creations....talk about yummy!!! Everyone has come up with some delish designs!

This was the funnest project I have done for Our Creative Corner! I went through a bunch of my baking items in the kitchen and just started creating. I am totally in love with my recipe pocket and Tim's Honeycomb Texture Fade. I think they both totally transformed this tag that houses Grandma's recipe. This would be a fun gift for a bridal shower, filled with attendees recipes.
I did not use the small heart tart pan, but everything else I used.
I cut the end off the bread pan to use as my pocket. The base of the pan was used for the honeycomb.
I painted Gesso on the front and back of the tag to add stability, because it would be heavy with elements, and also so it would be white instead of manila.
My daughter wanted to learn how to apply Alcohol Ink, so these are her precious hands applying the yellows to the embossed honeycomb metal. I applied Espresso Alcohol Ink to the raised areas after the yellow dried. I am so loving this design.
I embossed the jumbo tag with the checkerboard texture fade, and then inked the raised areas with Black Soot Distress Ink, as well as the edges.
The mini cupcake papers were purple so I used Red Pepper Alcohol Ink to recolor them. I die cut all of the cupcake papers using the Bigz and Mini Tattered Florals Dies. I inked the edges with Distress Ink, stacked them up, and used the Tiny Attacher to hold them together.
I affixed the honeycomb metal to the tag using the Tiny Attacher. I colored a few spots of the aluminum pocket using Pitch Black Alcohol Ink, and then wrapped it around the tag and hammered it in place.
I used the red sugar crystals and sea salt as glitter to embellish my flowers. Snaps were added to the centers of the flowers. Ribbons and bees finished the tag up, along with the teaspoon.

I used a picture from Tim's Salvage Stickers, cut it out in a circle, added a hand written title, adhered it to the spoon, and filled it with Glossy Accents.

I am submitting this tag to Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stamper challenge for "Pockets", and Simon Says Stamp & Show's challenge of "Depth Of Distress".
