Hello everyone and welcome to my first card post showing the new Sizzix Chapter 1 Dies from Tim Holtz. I hope you were able to watch the Live as there were so many wonderful projects made with all the new dies. If not, he has a replay you can see. This Valentine Card is made with the new Colorize Gladys as well as the Hearts Stacked Tiles Thinlits. I had such fun putting these flamingos together and came up with so many sentiments for them like, 'I'm tickled pink to love you!', 'I'm so glad you are part of the flock!', 'I'm putting my foot down. You're the best!', 'You're a flockstar!', 'Birds of a feather flock together.'...you get my drift. Ultimately though, I decided to go with 'You are Flamazing!'. I like a good play on words. Enjoy!
Die cut Gladys (right
side) using three colors of pink felt, brown and black cardstock, and Ivory and
White Heavystock, adding two sided tape to the back of each before die cutting.
Assemble the right side Gladys. To die cut the left side Gladys, place the dies
on the side of the papers and felts with the two sided tape backing on it so
all the pieces will face the opposite way as the first Gladys (right side). Assemble
left side Gladys and set these aside.
Using the Deckle
Trimmer, cut Watercolor Cardstock to 4.5 x 6 inches. Take a pieces of sticky
note and the smallest solid Moon Mask and trace half of it on the sticky note
and cut out. Place a scrap piece of paper about 1.5 inches from the bottom of
the Watercolor Cardstock (vertically) to protect that area. Place the smallest
Moon Mask with the cut outs in it half way over the scrap paper in the center
of the Watercolor. Ink inside the areas with Fossilized Amber Distress Ink and
an Ink Blending Tool, heavily. Remove the mask only, and add the half moon cut
out sticky note over scrap paper, centering it to create the half sun. Using a
Broad Water Brush, brush over the half circle area pulling the ink out to color
in the space for a watercolored look. Remove stencil and scrap paper. Pull some
of the yellow down below the sun into the water area. Taking Villainous Potion
and Kitsch Flamingo Distress Inks, apply them to the silicon mat directly from
the pad. Use the Broad Waterbrush to add streaks of color from both of the inks
in the water area below the sun, blending the colors slightly. Dry with a heat
tool. It will probably be a little muddy and that is okay, as this is the first
layer of color.
Using more scrap paper,
die cut two medium sized Stacked Tiles Hearts. Place them randomly in the sky
area with one on each side. Lightly ink over these with Kitsch Flamingo and
over the rest of the sky area leaving some white here and there. Use the Broad
Waterbrush to more the ink around leaving the heart areas white.
Moving back to the water
area, add Fossilized Amber to the mat and pick up with a Detail Waterbrush.
Paint in some sun lines below the sun in the water to look like a reflection.
Add more Kitsch Flamingo and Villainous Potion to the mat, and pick up the inks
one at a time with a Detail Waterbrush and add horizontal stripes of the colors
in the water area around the yellow areas. Dry. Cover the sun with the solid
Moon Mask. Lightly mist the paper with water and let it set while you pick up Kitsch
Flamingo first then Villainous Potion with the Detail Waterbrush while flicking
the brush over the paper to create small drops of ink over it. Since it's wet
the ink drops will bleed a little more adding a nice watery look. Remove mask
and dry.
Ink the edges of the
watercolor heavily with Kitsch Flamingo and an Ink Blending Tool. Lightly mist
the paper with Flickering Candle Mica Stain, and then lightly with Pearl Mica
Spray for a sparkly yet humid look. Let dry. Fold a kraft paper card base to 5
x 6.5 inches. Mount Black Cardstock on that (cut 4 7/8 x 6 3/8 inches) with two
sided tape, and then White Heavystock to that (cut 4 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches). Mount
the watercolor to the white.
Add two sided tape to
light purple felt. Die cut two bowties from Crazy Things Framelits from the purple
as well as the Valentine Word from Thin Sentiments. Poke out the letters and
save for another project. Cut off the apostrophe S from the word and then trim
around the word block style. Add two sided tape to more pink felt, and die cut
three tiny hearts and one medium heart. Add 'Valentine' to the bottom center of
the card. Add both flamingos to the card so that the feet stand on the block
word at the bottom. Add the bowties to the birds, one on the neck and one on
the head.
Ink around Chit Chats Stickers
'you' and 'are' with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink, and add to black cardstock
and cut out. Add Label Letters 'Flamazing' to pink felt, and cut around it
block style. Add these around the sun area centering everything. Ink around
hearts with Kitsch Flamingo and add medium heart between birds, and the other
hearts in the sky area randomly. Ink around card with Gathered Twigs to finish
card.
