A Paint By Roses Valentine???

Uh...shouldn't that be "numbers" and not roses? Nope!  This tissue paper I received in a gift bag, screamed out to me to give it some color, which was perfect for the new challenge at Simon Says Stamp & Show for "Getting Messy".  It is getting close to March, and they say that month starts like a lion right? So let’s roar and make some creative mess! Whether it's distress stains or paint splatters, tearing up a sheet of paper or making a layered collage, misting or a glittering, show us your beautiful piece of Art that you created by getting your hands a bit messy this week!
My hands certainly got a little inky making this very colorful tag! It certainly felt good! It's like battle scars that you are proud to show off...no manicured hands for me! Here's a step out of how I got my hands so yummy dirty, and I've used two new products that I received from a VERY NICE person at CHA who just gave them to me. SCORE!!! Thank you Heidi!
I adhered this gorgeous tissue paper to a Ranger #10 Jumbo Sized Tag.
I wanted to see the difference in Dyan's Dylusions Ink Spray in Bubblegum Pink from yonder year to the brand new Funky Fuchsia (Cool name!). It's a little hard to see here, but the Funky Fuchsia is definitely a hot pink and a little more electric than the Bubblegum.
I used Ranger's Waterbrushes filled with Dylusions to color these in. You can see the difference better in the Bubblegum (left) and Fuchsia (right) much better. I allowed for bleeding of the colors.
I was so excited about using Tim's new Distress Paints, and I was not disappointed. They are VERY different than regular paint. They are thinner, and water can manipulate them while they are wet, BUT once dry they are opaque and are PERMANENT. They are easily blendable, and they smell wonderful...kind of sweet. I used a paint brush to paint in the two remaining roses with the Spun Sugar Distress Paint. While the paint was wet, I misted water into my hand and spritzed the whole tag. The Dylusions of course bleaches out, and so does the Distress Paint! COOL!!! I need all the colors now!
I traced around all the rose lines using Black Soot Distress Stickles. I let this dry several hours before working on it again.
I stitched around the tag, and hand wrote along some of the lines of the roses for added interest. I inked around the edges in Black Soot Distress Ink as well.
Using Tim's Sizzix Vintage Lace Die, I die cut the border piece and coated it with Glossy Accents to strengthen it and give it sheen. I do this a lot when using this die. I adhered this to the tag bottom.
I ink sprayed a scrap piece of Ranger's Special Stamping Paper with Crushed Grape. When dried, I stamped Tim's Stamper's Anonymous X and the O in Jet Black Archival. I cut them out, set eyelets into them, added jump rings, and hung them from the tulle in the hole of the tag. I did add a little foam tape to the back to keep the O in place.
I used the Funky Fuchsia to color the zipper ribbon.
How about those messy inky hands? Woohoo!
Sometimes you just need hot glue. It really makes some things a cinch! I filled the center of the flower with Glossy Accents and added some loose beads in it.
I painted these Prima Roses straight with the Distress Paint and then dipped them into the Distress Stickles Dry Glitter...perfect sparkle! I added these and the zipper flower to the tag bottom and stuck in a little tulle and a couple of stick pins to form a make shift corsage look.

Do you love to get your hands creatively dirty like I do? If so, create your work of Art and enter it into our challenge. You just might be the lucky winner of a $50 voucher to Simon Says Stamp. You can also be named as one of the "Top Three Picks" for this challenge. Good luck, and please visit the other DT member's blogs to check out their fabulous projects from this week. You won't be disappointed!

  34. Awesome! I just picked up all the distress paints and love them. I love how you painted with a prush with them and put the sprays in the waterbrushes. Is that a regular zipper you turned into a flower? Just removed the pull? I can't wait to take part in this challenge as my hands are ALWAYS messy.

  43. Woomph - amazing colours, and such fabulous strong graphics... but you see, now it's clear the advantage I have working with blues and greens, and why I'm wary of red and pink - at least my hands don't look like Lady Macbeth's!!! Amazing tag, Anita!
