Happy October everyone! It's time for the Sizzix Chapter 4 Die Release, and Eileen Hull has two new dies...3D Teacup and Spoon Bigz L Die and Post Scoreboard XL Die, and with a slew of talented Designers, she is doing a Blog Hop! I've used the Teacup and Spoon Bigz L Die to create this Autumn Flower Arrangement. It was a small labor of love, but will look great on my dining table for the Fall season every year, so it was totally worth it. When I was little my mother had this old vintage pottery coffee cup that had that glazed drip look in browns and oranges. I have searched the web and couldn't find any pictures from what I remember, but the Hull (go figure) brand is so similar. Anyway, I tried to recreate the look on this teacup. It really came out best as I remember that cup. This is a long post so grab pumpkin spice something or another.
Die cut the cup and teaspoon using matboard. Gently squeeze Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Dabber from Ranger to work area, enough to pick up with a paintbrush, and apply to the bottom of the cup in a streaky zig zag kind of way. Pour Vintage Photo Embossing Glaze over this, pour off excess onto a scrap paper and heat emboss. Repeat with a zig zag layer of Antique Linen, then Rusty Hinge, and finally with Crackling Campfire Embossing Glaze to create that 'drip' look from long ago.
Die cut leaves from Spring Leaves die, and apply Embossing Dabber over it and then Antique Linen Embossing Glaze and heat. Adhere leaves to each teacup. Ink over the middle section of the die that holds the cups together with Crackling Campfire Distress and adhere between cups. Ink edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I found a saucer at Hobby Lobby that matched the look of the cups, and I painted over it with Crackling Campfire Distress Ink.
To further match the saucer, I added dots of Antique Linen Distress Paint to the top and bottom borders of the cups. For an even more glazed look to the cup, apply the Embossing Dabber over all of the front and shake on Clear Embossing Powder and heat. Repeat with the back.
Add flower foam to the middle of the cup to hold the flowers, and then moss on top of that. Paint the spoon with Tarnished Brass Distress Paint.
I had all the colors of adhesive velvet that I needed except an orange color, so I made my own. Using the ivory colored velvet, I misted it with Crackling Campfire Distress Spray Stain, and dabbed it with a paper towel until I liked the look, and then let it dry. So keep in mind that you can recolor adhesive velvet. Apply the velvet to coordinating cardstock.
Die cut the ivory velvet using the Rolled Flower Thinlit. Roll it up and adhere the bottom edges as you go with Collage Medium. Let dry. Die cut leaves with the green velvet. Thread pearl beads onto a piece of wire 1 yard long folded in half. Place the beaded folded wire through the middle of the flower, and a thread another pearl and leaf through the wire.
Die cut more flowers using the Heart Petals and Heart and Soul dies with the orange and brown velvet, as well as more leaves in green velvet. Repeat the pearl bead to the wire and through the middle of the flower. I made seven flowers in total for the arrangement. Using the Twist and Style Tool, secure the suction cup to a strong table top (I used the glass mat) and add the flower top to the post on the suction cup with the wire right in the middle. Add the end of the wire to the inside holder of the handle and secure with the key, and turn the handle until the wire tightens all the way to the base of the flower and you like the look of the braid in the wire. Be careful not to twist to tight or the wire might break. Remove and repeat until all the flowers stems are finished.
Cut the teabag label so that are two, but you only need one for this project so save the other. Add a label to the middle and wording, and ink the edges in Antique Linen Distress. Adhere a string to the top using a Tiny Attatcher. Paint a metal flower and leaf with Tarnished Brass and adhere to the spoon with Collage Medium, and a pearl bead to the middle.
Use a craft pick to make a hole in the foam for each flower and the spoon, and place flowers in the foam along with a little Collage Medium for extra holding power. Add in sprigs of wired berries as well until the bouquet is full. Secure string from teabag in and then cover foam with Collage Medium and sprinkle in moss. Let dry completely and then arrange flowers if need be.
