CC3C - Assemblage Clock

Happy happy Saturday craft lovers! It's time for the tenth challenge in the new Compendium of Curiosities III Challenge!!! Thank you for joining in on all the fun, and if you haven't I hope you do!  There is always so much to learn and to be inspired by. Thank you for all of the comments each time. I am always so humbled!

Challenge number ten is all about a favorite Idea-ology piece...the Assemblage Clock! It is so cool to incorporate it because you can create to your hearts desire to make a show piece however you see fit, putting anything on it and in it!!! I love that! I am absolutely anxious to see how you can transform this clock! Have you ever looked at product packaging in a whole new way right before you where going to through it in the bin??? If not, please do. You might discover something that inspires you to start crafting. Sometimes hoarding can be a pleasant part of Art!! When those things you should throw away are now looked at in a whole new light to make something different. That is what I've done here on this project, and Idea-ology packaging is one of more hoarded treasures!

I save everything, and especially the plastic packaging of the Idea-ology Buckles, because to me they looked like owls and ghoulish faces. I thought they would be perfect for something Halloweeny!

Then you have packaging that looks just like the items that where in it, and that is great to use as well!

I began by covering the main clock piece and the bell portions with Gesso. After it dried, I began to adhere the plastic packaging pieces onto the sides of the clock. I found E6000 worked the best as I had to make sure the plastic pieces adhered to the roundness of the clock. After the glue had dried, I filled in any cracks and openings from the packaging that could be seen with Ranger's new Texture Paste. Then after everything was dried again, I recoated the clock with more Gesso and really globbed it on in certain places to add on lots of texture.

I painted all the pieces of the clock...yes, I disassembled every bit...with Distress Paint.

I highlighted the raised portions on the sides of the clock with a little Archival Ink, and then pounced some Alcohol Ink onto the glass front of the clock.  Then it was time to put the whole thing together again!

I still had so many of the plastic pieces left from the packaging, so I choose the one I thought looked like an owl and adhered it to a cut down tag.  I then repeated the same steps as on the clock...Texture Paste, Gesso, Distress Paint. I added a little more coloration to his eyes with Distress Markers and topped them off with Glossy Accents.

He needed to sit on a branch, so it was the Sizzix Tree Branch Die to the rescue, along with some Shattered Core-dinations cardstock. I finished the tag off with Mirrored Stars, a Chit Chat Sticker, and Paper String.

I thought my pumpkin clock needed leaves to top it off. The combination of Wendy's Clearly For Art and Frosted Film is always a great choice for showy die cuts, so I adhered them together, and colored the back of the CFA with a combination of Sunset Orange and Botanical Alcohol Ink. I LOVE Alcohol Ink!

I die cut the Frosted CFA, inked the edges with Archival Ink, and shaped them with heat! I could make a ton more of these! So fun! I adhered them to the clock.

I took some more Paper String, colored it with Distress Paint, and then wrapped it around a pencil to dry. I had perfectly curled ringlets of string that serves as vines for the pumpkin clock. I hand cut a face for the pumpkin out of black cardstock, glued it on, and added a Mini Lantern to the inside! I love how it looks at night, but photographing this in the day is hard enough with the glare off the glass.

12 Tags of 2014 - August

Hello everyone crafty! Can you believe it's not the end of the month yet, and I have already created my tag for August for Tim's 12 Tags of 2014?!! The words Tim wrote on his blog this month moved me so, and I had to get started earlier. If you haven't read them, I copied them here. Tim said...

muse /myo͞oz/: to become absorbed in thought or dreamy abstraction

now usually i have a pretty good idea of what i want to create before i start the tag each month since i try to feature a new product or design with a seasonal theme.  however this month i didn’t plan a thing, i just gathered some of my favorite stamps, stencils, idea-ology findings, and distress products in a pile on my table.  i wanted to create something for the art of it.  this tutorial will give you a glimpse into my creative process (however crazy it may be), and you will see that like anyone else who creates, i change my mind along the way, think of new ideas that probably should have been done before something else, but nevertheless i just keep going until i’m happy with the end result.  i’ve learned long ago to embrace my imperfections and that sure makes creating so much more enjoyable.  so whether you’re obsessed with distress, or clean and simple is your thing, perhaps your happy place is bright colors, heck maybe even glitter is your sparkly obsession, this month i challenge you to create showcasing your own creative muse.   it doesn’t get any better than that…t!m"

I was moved because even Tim, and we all know how great he is, doesn't have a plan before he sets out, and he even has mishaps along the way, but he just goes for it anyway until he is happy! He fulfills his muse! Art doesn't have to be perfect and all that matters is that you are happy with the end result! There are no mistakes in Art! Set yourself free, create, and be happy! That can apply to every area of our lives!  I needed to hear that (again and again) because I get bogged down in the planning of it all, and trying to make too many people happy before I make myself happy. Creating Art shouldn't be that way...after all, we are the ones creating it. Right?!!

Anyway...enough of what goes through my crazy mind. Here is my take for this month's tag, and I followed Tim to the letter, just using my own favorites along the way!
