Two Cheers For Distress Markers

Over at Frilly & Funkie, it's my turn to host the Friday Focus. I decided that since so many of you are just now receiving your fantastic Distress Markers, that I would show you a couple of quick techniques using them, that I learned from Tim. For those of you who haven't taken the leap to purchase them yet, you can pick them up for 15% of the already discounted price at the Funkie Junkie Boutique. There is no price anywhere lower than that! I also saw that the new Limited Edition Spring Distress Inks were on sale too...FYI!

Stamping With Distress Markers:

Color directly onto the stamp using your Distress Markers. The markers will not contaminate each other, but if you see a slight color change, then all you have to do is swipe your tip on your craft sheet a few times to clean it off.

Once your stamp is covered, give it a good huff and stamp onto your paper. Specialty Stamping paper or manila work really well. DO NOT clean your stamp.

There is still lots of ink left on the stamp. Lightly mist water in the air and catch it on your stamp (like you spray perfume). You will see the image refreshen. Stamp it on to your project. You can do this until your stamp is clean.

I was able to stamp this four times with the same ink. WOW!!! That not only saves time but money as well, and it gives a very 3D look to your image, and a soft watercolor look as well. Dry your image with a heat tool to set it in well.

Distress Marker Ink also acts as a resist (coolest part). You can ink over this in Distress Ink and your Marker image is unscathed. You can also color on top of the Distress Ink without contamination. I colored in a sun...see below.

I further colored in the berries with Picket Fence Distress Marker. It magically appears after you color it in, to a brilliant white.

  

 

Watercoloring With Distress Markers:

Stamp an image using Archival Ink onto watercolor paper, so there is no smearing when you use water.

Choose various colors in the same family, and color in only the inside edges of your image, leaving the rest blank. Use a Fine Tip Watercolor Brush to lift your color and blend it to a desired spot.

Continue blending until your desired look is achieved.

For the background, the process is the same, except you apply color to the outer borders of your image. Use a Broad Tip Watercolor Brush to grab and blend the color.

I mounted this onto a manila tag that was color washed with Adirondack Color Wash and then inked around the edges. The seam binding and flowers were also color washed.

Ranger U....WOW!!!!

 

WOW...just WOW!!!! It all happened so fast. There really needs to be one or two more days added to the curriculum because there is so much to learn and do, and so little time. I liken it to going to Disney World the first time and trying to see and do it all in under a day...it just can't be done, and some parts were just as loud as being on a roller coaster! What a time though! My poor hands feel as if they have a hangover, and they secretly love it! I met some wonderful people as well, and the Ranger staff made us feel like royalty...a total class act!  Let's see if I can remember them all...Tammy, Patti, Rhonda, Christie, Lisa, Carolyn, Noell, Wendy, Mackie, Sue, Tina, Charlotte, Barbara, Tara, Aurea, Krista, Dene, Betty, Christy, Lynn, and the sweet girl from Michael's Craft store, whose name I shall shout out at 3 am after I can't sleep. I even had dinner with her...sorry. I was not fortunate enough to meet the other two...they escaped my path. I guess someone told them I might talk to them.

The new Spring Limited Distress Inks that I got off straight from the conveyor belt after being completed! Now how's that for fresh ink?!? The warehouse/factory tour was my favorite...I was in awe of those machines...wow!!!

I made several of these and attached them to bags of Texas Trash to give away. I am submitting this to Hels Sheridan's Sunday Stamper challenge for "reds". Hels, a former grad, has spurred me on so much during this endeavor of Ranger U! Thank you Hels!!! And so many other blog land babes have as well! Huge thanks being sent to all of you as well!!!
