Chained and Bound???

The ATC challenge this month at the All Things Tim Yahoo Group was to use a "Heart/Hearts with only Antique Gold and/or Bronze". These are my two favorite metallics so I really had fun layering on lots of stuff, and I even tore apart an old necklace to use as the chain.  I wanted to make these extra special as it might be iffy as to my participation as regularly as usual due to my teaching and DT work responsibilities. I will try to participate as often as I can though as you know how much I love to trade!

I misted a sheet from Tim's Crowded Attic with Ranger Espresso and Butterscotch Color Washes.

More misting with Perfect Pearls in Sunflower Sparkle and Bronze. I cut these to ATC size and mounted them on chipboard. I stamp the sentiment over and over again in Jet Black Archival. I tore pieces of Symphony Tissue Tape and colored them with Antiqued Bronze Metallic Stain and added them to the card. I painted the edges with the Pitch Black Paint Dabber to finish up the background. For the inside, I adhered a folded ATC sized Kraft card to the back on the ATC. I stamped the sentiment on the  inside the card and stamped a watermark image and misted Heirloom Gold. I inked all edges in Black Soot Distress Ink.

I die cut hearts from Sizzix Love Struck die from Grunge Paper, and painted them with Pitch Black Paint Dabber. I ran them through the Music Notes Texture Fade after.

I lightly painted over the raised music noted with Gold Paint Dabber, and when that dried added Black Soot Distress Stain over that to deepen the black. It resisted the Gold perfectly. I misted this with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls. I added the hearts on the card. I added the chain to the heart.

I die cut the Mini Locks out of Grunge Paper.

I painted these with Pitch Black and while wet added Antiqued Bronze Metallic Stain right over the top. It glided over some spots and coated others and gave me the look I wanted...not too orange, but perfectly rusted. I added the lock to the chain with jump rings.

A Trunk, A Trunk, Of Heavy Metal???

It's Monday Metal Madness! The challenge at Simon Says Stamp & Show this week is "Metal-ology"! Woohoo! From foil to tin buttons, silver paint to gold leafing pens, metal brads to gold copper glitter, or anything in between...this week the challenge is to incorporate some metal into your project!

 

This challenge was one I was thrilled about, but I wanted to do something I've never done to really make it a challenge for me. I knew I wanted to alter something, but didn't know what  until I found some inspiration, which just happens to be right in front of my feet every time I sit in 'my rocking chair'! It's my husband's late grandfather's trunk, which we use as our coffee table, and it also houses all of our games. It has seen many places, and I'm sure could tell many stories. It's made of metal and is cedar lined...it smells fabulous! It's priceless to me, as he was, and though it has had a few repair jobs in it's time and is due another soon, I will never part with it until it's time to go.

I purchased a super inexpensive paper mache box, and used Ranger's Adirondack Paint Dabber in Pitch Black to paint the edges, corners, and thin panels of the box, in and out.

Using Ranger's Metal Foil Sheets and Alcohol Ink, I tamped Watermelon and Red Pepper on. I let it dry.

I crumbled the metal foil up, and then ran the Pitch Black Dabber over it to highlight the wrinkles. I let it dry, and cut it to size to fit the trunk. I removed the backing and stuck in onto the trunk.

Using Rust and Pitch Black Alcohol Ink, I tried to give a very aged and distressed look to many of Tim's Idea-ology metal pieces and some latches I salvaged from on old broken box.. YUMMO!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this!

I die cut a few scrap pieces of Grunge Paper with  Tim's Sizzix Movers & Shapers Mini Styled Labels. I painted them with Pitch Black, distressed the edges, and used these to back the keyhole and latches.

Using the left over Metal Foil Sheet, I adhered it to Wendy's Clearly For Art Blackout. I die cut this using the Tattered Florals die, but only the medium six petal flower and the mini flower. I cut several, to make roses that Wendy taught me how to make.

It take two of the medium 6 petal flowers to make a rose. I cut one petal from one, and two from the other (Looks like a heart.). I also did the same with the mini flowers to use as filler pieces.

 I used heat from a heat tool to shape the flowers. I worked from underneath, and when the CFA became soft I pulled the petals together to form a flower shape. There is no need for glue yet, as CFA stays put once cooled. I made sure to curl the petals over when they were hot. I did the same thing with the one that two were cut off from. I snipped the bottoms to make a flat base and allow for a small hole. Then I shaped the 2 petal (Looks like a heart.) in half and curled the petals, and set these aside. I curled the single petal into a tube shape.

Using Glossy Accents, I stacked the tube shape single petal  into the 4 petal and that into the 5 petal. I snipped the tube petal on the bottom to match the other two. The rose was left to dry over night.

I stained pieces of Idea-ology Kraft Resist (With the definition of precious and treasure trove on them.) with Aged Mahogany and Barn Door Distress Stain. I cut them to fit the Ornate Frames, added some Chit Chat words, a wooden heart (Thanks Linda!), and filled them with Glossy Accents. I added these to the top of the trunk with a cameo from my collection, and adhered the metal roses.

I used more Idea-ology Kraft Paper and added Crowded Attic Papers which I colored with the same Stains and a little Weathered Wood as well. I gave them all a fine mist of Biscotti Perfect Pearls. I cut them to size to fit the inside of the box, inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink, and adhered them in place.

 

This will now house a booty of Creative Treasure...my ATC trades from so many of you from around the world!

12 Tags Of 2013 - February

Happy Love Day Crafters!!! I hope you all eat your fill of tasty chocolates and stop to smell the roses while spending quality time with those you love! I'm spending time with the family, as it's my hubby's birthday! He is my cupid! However, I couldn't let the day go by without posting my February tag for 2013.

It is basically the same as Tim's, with only a few minor tweaks. It's Jumbo (#10 sized), has added Stickles, has some added Tissue Tape, has an added heart in the charm, the Queen is on Specialty Stamping Paper instead of Watercolor Paper, and the finger is solo. I just have to say, again, how much I love the Blueprint Stamps from Tim and MJ3! All of them are so fun! Coloring them in with Distress Markers is therapy for me, and Stickles where icing on the cake!

 

 

This is the tag I am giving my husband for his birthday/Valentine's Day that I made way back when. You might remember it from my Dylusions Perfect Splatter Video. I've been saving it for him all this time.

My Crafty Heart

As part as my Design Team duties for The Crafty Scrapper, I was given a blank Maya Road Canvas Heart to alter any way I desired, although I had to add a picture of myself and a few words about what Art means to me. This is what I came up with, and boy did I have a blast making it!

I stained it all up first with Aged Mahogany, Black Soot, and Vintage Photo, with a few mists of water.

I stamped the dots in Tarnished Brass Metallic Distress Stain. The sentiment was stamped first in Jet Black Archival and heat embossed in Gold Tinsel and then restamped in Jet Black. Next came lots and lots of metal, material, and embellishments.

It's a little hard to read what it says, as I think I should have let things dry a little better, but it's Wendy's sentiment which I think fits how I feel perfectly, "Let what you LOVE be what you do." I love Art! So I am also submitting this to the Everything Wendy Yahoo Group's Making Art Challenge for "4 Letter Word". Since it's a heart and it's the season for hearts I might as well submit it to The Artist Stamper Creative Team Blog Challenge for "Hearts & Flowers", Sunday Stamper for "Love & Hearts", and for the "Ribbon" to Unruly Paper Arts Reader Art Quest 1.
