Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2022 - Bold Text and Retro Halloween Treat Bag #10 Gift Tags

I'm back and with my last project from the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween Live...these fun Bold Text Halloween and Retro Halloween Treat Bag Gift Tags, for those special Trick-or-Treaters.  The Retro Halloween images are so easy and fast to put together, and you can use so many substrates with them and interchange the pieces with different ones...so cool! I was lucky to find some (Although not enough so all the bags are not filled yet in the photos, but I'll be looking for more.) retro candy to fill the sacks with to match the retro feel of the tags...love that those are still being made, especially the Razzles. Enjoy!

 

When die cutting the Retro Halloween and Bold Text Halloween pieces, you will need glitter paper and Metallic Kraftstock in the same color family, as well as black cardstock, all with two sided tape on the back and ready to go...with the exception of the ghost and skull (they need black glitter paper as well as silver glitter paper and silver Metallic Kraftstock) and cat (yellow glitter paper but with black Metallic Kraftstock). All the faces will need two solid base pieces in glitter, one face in metallic, and one face in black cardstock. You will replace the inside pieces of black cardstock with the inside pieces of Metallic Kraftstock, then adhere each one to a glitter base with the glitter showing through to the eyes and anywhere else you think (See the next picture for some detail on this.). On the text of each one, die cut the words with black cardstock, remove the letters and save for later, and adhere the words to a glitter paper and trim around the border (see pic 3 for better details). Then you will decide which face to use on the tags and save the other for another project or make more tags with them. 

 

  

Here is a better look at what I talked about above. There are two base glitter pieces for each face (one in metallic and one in black), and you swap out the middle pieces on the faces with the other color, leaving the eyes open to see the glitter when you adhere the face on. You can also cut the two die pieces together to get a thin border trim to use on one, which is a cool thing to be able to do and that makes it like there are three dies per character instead of two. The hard part is deciding which face to use on the tag, or you can make two tags and use both. 

 

 

Here is a little detail on the sentiment. Die cut using Black Cardstock with two sided tape on back, push out the letters and use for another time, then adhere to a glitter paper and trim around. Adhere this onto Mixed Media Cardstock or Manila and trim around just leaving a tiny border, and ink the border with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

 

  

To make the tags, pick two Halloween Backdrops to paper piece together. Cut each into six each pieces, and then join two together (one piece from sheet) with a piece of Halloween Design Tape. Ink the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink, and then mount onto Black Cardstock, just leaving a very thin edge. Mount this onto Mixed Media Cardstock or Manila, and cut and ink the edges. Mount this onto a patterned Halloween paper (I used Halloween Kraftstock...love this stash!) and leave a wider border, and ink. Then mount onto black and finally onto a #10 Kraft Tag, and ink the edges. Lots of layers, but it really makes the images pop. 

 

 

To dress up the characters, add hats cut from patterned Halloween paper, and even add a pom pom on top with Collage Medium. To make collars, cut a piece of Mummy Cloth about 5 inches long, and pull a few threads from each side opposite each other to make it ruffle up, and gently pull and slide the cloth at the same time until you get the ruffled look you want. Tie the threads into a knot behind the collar, and add two sided tape behind. Remove the two sided tape backing from the character and stick the collar in place where you want it and then adhere the character to the tag directly or add some foam tape behind to prop up the middle of the face and stick the sides of the face down like I did. Adhere the sentiment below. Add whatever else you want to dress up your character. 

 

 

Take large Kraft treat sacks that are slightly larger than the #10 tag, and ink the edges in Gathered Twigs. Fill the bags with vintage retro looking candy, and fold the top about 3/4 of an inch. Punch a hole in the middle of the fold to match up with the hole on the tag, and secure the tag on top of the sack with a Mummy Cloth bow to give to your special Trick-or-Treaters or as party favors. SO STINKING CUTE!

Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween 2022 - Colorize Trick or Treat Candy Apple Trio Tags

Wasn't that Tim Holtz Live showing all the new Halloween Sizzix Dies and projects made with them wonderful?!! My head is still swimming with inspiration from all the makes! I'll be posting the two projects I made for the Live in the next two weeks, but I also made two projects (one little and one big) for the after Live that I'll be showing you this week. This first project is the little one that packs a big sweet punch, and were super simple, fast, and fun to make. Aren't these little Distress Embossing Glazed chocolate, caramel, and red Candy Apple #5 tags the cutest?!! They were made with the new Colorize Trick or Treat and Halloween Bold Text Thinlits. You can add so much more and really make them special, but I wanted to keep them super simple, as I made them specifically for tying to Candy Apples for a Fall Fun Festival, and I have several more to make. They would be so great at an Autumn or Halloween themed party too. The tut is short and sweet, just like the project...enjoy!

 

Mist a small piece of Distress Woodgrain Cardstock with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain from Ranger. Dry. Add two sided tape to the back. Die cut the two popsicle stick dies from the Colorize Trick or Treat Thinlits (since I made three, I die cut 3 of each). Ink the edges of the sticks with Antique Linen Distress Ink and adhere together. Set aside. Select four different shades of green matte cardstock, and add two sided tape to the back. Ink the edges of all the pieces with Twisted Citron Distress Ink, and adhere all the pieces. Die cut the three highlight pieces with white cardstock (I used Specialty Stamping Paper) and adhere those. Ink over the highlight pieces with Twisted Citron. Set all these aside. 

For the apple bottoms, you need a dark, light and medium of light brown honey colors for the caramel, reds for the candy apple, and brown for the chocolate. I used metallics for the caramel and red. You will cut the bottom piece with the lightest color, the second and third layers with the darkest color, and the top piece with the medium tone. Put two sided tape on the back of each. Also, die cut the letters 'y', 'u', and 'm' with the medium tone colors. Once die cut, adhere all the pieces together. Using an Embossing Dabber or Ink, apply liberally to the pieces and pour Vintage Photo Embossing Glaze on the caramel and chocolate pieces and heat emboss. Apply Candied Apply Embossing Glaze to the red and heat emboss. You can use Walnut Stain on the chocolate pieces, but I seem to have lost my jar. Do the same to the letters with the glaze and heat emboss using tweezers to help. 

 

 Take a #5 Kraft Tag and round the bottom corners. Doodle, stamp, stencil or whatever you want in the background. Adhere the word at the bottom, then the apples and sticks. Ink the edges of the tags in the same color inks as the candy part...I used Fired Brick, Wild Honey, and Vintage Photo Distress Archival. Using white or cream Paper String, cut each about 12 inches, and use the same inks and an Ink Blending Tool to color the string. Tie the string on the tag holes.

Santa Snow Leopard Suit Tags

Every year I find a set of Christmas Gift Bags that I like, and I try my best to make matching gift tags for them.  This year I liked these vintage type bags with the Snow Leopard fur on Santa's hat and suit, found at Home Goods. They even had an attached Santa face image on the handle. Right next to the bags were two packages of these oddly sized black tags, 3.75 x 7 inches, 12 in a pack from Roobee by Mara-Mi (never have heard of this company) and I thought why not try them. Here is what I came up with. Enjoy!

When I opened the tags, they had a rougher, detail sand paper type of feel. I really liked the texture, but I was unsure about them. I thought I would try a test of these new tags along side with a Ranger #8 Black Tag, painting each with Candied Apple Distress Paint from Tim Holtz. I was shocked by the results. The Ranger tag really absorbed the red paint and turned the tag a dark brick color (on the right), but the new tag must have had a coating on top as the paint did not absorb into the paper so the color stayed on top and was vibrant and sharp, coloring the black quite well. It even dried pretty quick as well. I decided to add another coat to match the bags a little better...WOW, so vibrant. I looked for more online, but had no luck. I found some silver ribbon in my stash that closely matched the ribbon on the bag, and added it through the hole, but not tying it yet. 

I decided to try the Snow Leopard look, and just knew I already had ribbon that matched and would make it easy, but I didn't find any in the stash after searching for awhile. I did have plain white furry ribbon though, but it was too wide and the fur way to long. I decided to use what I had, and gave the fur a good hair cut outside, using super sharp Tim scissors. The hairs went all over the place...good I was outside...but I loved the result. Next, I needed black spots. I didn't want to use paint as I wasn't sure if it would dry stiff, so I tried a marker first. I used a Black Big Brush Pitt Pen from Faber Castell, and it worked wonderfully. I trimmed the fur to size and adhered it to the tags (I made 12 tags, and some without spots for a more masculine feel.) with Skor Tape. 

For the buckle, I die cut Tim's Silver Kraftstock with the smallest Stacked Baroque Thinlit from Sizzix. I used a craft knife to cut slits on each side of the die cut, and inserted black glitter ribbon through to be the belt. I secure the belt over the fur with tape.

 

For personalization, I used the Varsity Alphanumeric Thinlits from Tim and Sizzix for the initial of each recipient using Gold and Silver Kraftstock...letter jacket style. So super fun. Then I tied them on the bag handles just below Santa's face...perfect!

Bold Tidings Mini and Stacked Triangles Christmas Gift Tags, Envelopes, and Boxes in Six Genres

Hi everyone! How about that crazy long title?!! I could add more to it with all I have to show you. This post was originally going to be six different posts with full tutorials, but time has gotten away from me, so I am combining them with no tutorial, sorry about that. Life has taken a turn onto the crazy highway for me. Anyway, I challenged myself to use the Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous Bold Tidings Mini Stamp Set  with the Sizzix Stacked Tiles Triangles Thinlits as trees, all on four different bases (Bigz L Pillow Box, Mini Envelope, Pocket Envelope, and #5 Tags all made from Ranger Kraft Heavystock) in six different styles (Farmhouse, Industrial, Mixed Media, Retro, Shabby Chic, and Vintage), for giving away Christmas gift cards, money, small trinkets, and of course for gift tags. I made 17 using these six styles, which are the genres I LOVE and always keep in mind when I am creating. All of these incorporate many dies, stamps, stencils, texture fades, mediums, ephemera, embellishments, and paper, all from Tim Holtz, but I am only listing the main supplies used and pertinent descriptions under each group photo. You will be able to pretty much see what I used from the pictures though. Again, I am sorry to not have the tutorial, but the descriptions should help if you decide to make some yourself. Hope you enjoy these, and hope they spark some ideas for your Christmas gift makes!

 

Farmhouse Christmas Gift Envelope and Pocket Envelope

Fun to make. The Merry Little Christmas is made with the Sizzix Envelope Bigz Large Die, and the tree with one XL and one large Stacked Tiles Triangles (There are 5 sizes I call XL, Large, Medium, Small, and Tiny) and a tiny Triangle for the trunk. Wood grain paper was added to the tree and background with embossed snowflakes. The Happiest Season of All is made from a Pocket Envelope Big Large Die and three of the tiny Triangles, on Christmas ephemera and paper, and frame out with more wood grain paper. 

 

Industrial Christmas Gift #5 Tag, Pillow Box, and Pocket Envelope

The Stars Brightly Shining is a #5 Tag, embossed with Starry Night Fade, and tree made from 5 medium Triangles and trunk with the tiny triangle, all embossed with the Pocket Watches Fade, and distressed with Distress Paint. The Be of Good Cheer is on a Pillow Box, embossed with Snowflake Pattern Fade, and tree made from three XL and one tiny Triangle, embossed with the Riveted Metal Fade and painted over. The Believe in Magic is on the Pocket Envelope Big Large Die, and embossed with the Diamond Plate Fade, and the tree made with one XL, one large, and one medium Triangle, with the base a tiny Triangle, all embossed with the Gears Texture Fade and painted. I think I had the most fun making these three.

 

 

Mixed Media Christmas Gift  Pocket Envelope, Mini Envelope, and #5 Tag

Although all 17 of these are Mixed Media technically, these three have that traditional Mixed Media look and use more mediums than the others. The Jingle All the Way is on a Pocket Envelope, with background and tree colored from Alcohol Inks, Alloys, and Pearls on Yupo. The background is also stenciled in with Grit Paste through Snowflake Stencil. The tree is made from two medium and one small Triangle, and embellished with Twinkle Stickles. The Merry and Bright is on a Mini Envelope, and I was going for an Andy Warhol look. Sheet Music was collaged and painted over and cut into four rectangles, each heat embossed with Oxides and powders in coordinating colors. The tree is one lone mini Triangle painted over and Stickled. 'Tis the Season is a #5 Tag with painted background and Grit Paste with Snowflakes stenciled in along with Stickles, and the tree with painted background using one XL, one large, and one medium Triangle. The sentiment is on a painted background as well.
 

 

Retro Christmas Gift Pillow Box, Mini Envelope, and #5 Tag

Super super fun to make. For the Good Tidings Pillow Box, use XL, large, and tiny Tringles to form a tree and cut out from a sticky note to make a mask. Use ink to ink in tree onto background. Use Distress Crayons to color in stripes of the sweater. Heat emboss sentiment. Home For the Holidays is on a Mini Envelope. Create hills and background with paper. Die cut car from Home for the Holidays Thinlits. Cut three tiny Triangles for tree, and attach above car. Use Crayons to color in. Add Grit Paste. Making Spirits Bright is on a #5 Tag. Use Oxides to create a diagonal striped background like Northern Lights. Add stars and sentiment. Cut houses from Paper Village Thinlits, and tree from three tiny Triangles. Add Grit Paste. 

 

 

Shabby Chic Christmas Gift Pillow Box, Mini Envelope, and #5 Tag

I was proud to make these for some reason. These three are made with lots of things from my old stash, like my wedding dress scraps, pearl ribbon, tinsel, and lace ribbon. I also used handmade paper made by my daughter for all the trees, which is nice and mealy and thick. Music Note paper is collaged on the background of all three of these, then white washed over and stamped on.  All is Calm is on a Pillow Box. Strips of lace are stitched on the top and bottom. Tree is cut from three large, one medium, and one tiny triangle and inked in Speckled Egg and sentiment heat embossed. Pearls are added. Love Peace Joy is on a Mini Envelope. The Hearts are cut from Heartfelt Bigz Die and embossed with Kaleidoscope 3D Fade. Tree is cut from two small and one tiny Triangle, and inked in Tattered Rose. Sentiment is stamped onto translucent ribbon and sewed on. Peace on Earth is a #5 Tag. Liquid Pearls make the background. Tree is cut from large, medium, and small Triangles and Glitter Dust over with Rock Candy. Tinsel is added. Sentiment is a rectangle hand cut base. 

 

 

 

Vintage Christmas Gift #5 Tag, Mini Envelope, and Pocket Envelope

I so had fun with these as well. All three of these use the same Christmas Words background paper. Holly Jolly Christmas is a #5 Tag. Ink background in Rustic Wilderness, stamp sentiment on Kraft and cut around in present shape. Add doll above present and color with Crayon. Cut four small and one tiny Triangle for tree, and emboss with Drapery Fade. Ink in design. Dashing Through the Snow is on a Tiny Envelope, and background inked in Speckled Egg. Hand cut hills are added with the doll. Cut two small and one tiny Triangle for the tree and emboss with Pine Branch Fade. Add Grit Paste for snow. Joy to the World is on a Pocket Envelope. Ink background in Speckled Egg. Die cut Globe from Vintage Globe and Fan Mini Set colored with Speckled Egg and Rustic Wilderness, and add sentiment over. Cut three mini Triangles for tree and ink then emboss with Chevron Fade. Add doll and color in.
