Hello All and Happy April, Happy Good Friday, and Happy Easter Weekend. Tomorrow is the Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 2 LIVE on Youtube, so tune in to see all the wonderful samples using the new dies. I have three samples that will be in the LIVE, but since Easter is in a few days I went ahead and posted this Easter card before the LIVE, so it will not be in it tomorrow. This card is made with the new Flower Field Thinlits and Ovals Stacked Tiles Framelits, and Chapter 1 Mr. Rabbit Bigz Die as well as the older Crochet Thinlit. Get used to seeing the Ovals from me in my makes, because I used them in all but one of the five samples I created. I love the versatility of these Framelits, and there are so many to use in the package. You are only limited by your creativity with the shaped Stacked Tiles. I used them for the vase, bowl, and eggs (of course) on this card. Grab a snack and enjoy!
For
the background of the
card, cut a piece of Worn Wallpaper to 4
5/8 x 6 1/8 inches. Ink around the flowery scrolls with Speckled Egg Distress
Ink with an Ink Blending Tool. Ink the edges as well. Go ahead and cut the Ivory
Heavystock for a mat to 4 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches, and a kraft card base to 5 x 6
1/2 inches and have those ready but set aside for now.
Die cut the Crochet
piece from Ivory Heavystock, and pick out all the pieces you don't need. Ink
over it with Antique Linen Distress Ink, and lightly mist this with water. Let
it sit a few seconds and then blot off any puddles with a paper towel and dry.
Ink the edges as well. Cut a piece of Kraft Cardstock about 1/4 wide and as
long as the die cut. Adhere it to the back of the die cut along the top border
for a solid table look as the Crochet piece will be like a table cloth, using
Collage Medium. Adhere this to the bottom of the Wallpaper piece centered. Cut
off the edges so it's flush with the Wallpaper. Stitch around this and through
the top of the Crochet piece using white or ivory thread. Ink the edges of this
with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Mount onto the Ivory Heavystock previously
cut, with two sided tape, and ink the edges in Gathered Twigs. Mount this onto
the card base and ink those edges. Set this aside for now. (Note: I made two of
these cards, so that is why you might see double pieces in the photos.)
For
the rabbit, take a
sheet of Woodgrain Cardstock, and using a brayer and the silicon mat as a
palette, add a light layer of Speckled Egg Distress Paint over the Woodgrain
Cardstock just here and there randomly. Clean the brayer and do the same with
Antique Linen Distress Paint except this time paint over the places where the
Speckled Egg is not and be a little heavier with the paint. Dry this with
a heat tool or let it air dry.
Mist over this with
Antique Linen, Pumice Stone, and Frayed Burlap Distress Spray Stain, and dry
while blotting off some of the spray with a paper towel. Die cut Mr. Rabbit
from this (I was able to cut two rabbits from one sheet having a rabbit face
opposite direction fyi.). Ink the edges of the Mr. Rabbit with Gathered Twigs
heavily and add some over some of the raised areas on the paper as well. Set
him aside.
For the vase, die cut one of the
smallest ovals from the Ovals Stacked Tiles Framelits, and one of the medium
(the third biggest) ovals from Ivory Heavystock. Working quickly so have all
your materials ready, use an Embossing Pen and draw a horizontal arched line in
the top portion of the largest oval (this will be the top lip of the vase), and
then draw curved lines above that and below (for a striped look), and then pour
Antique Linen Distress Embossing Glaze powder over this over a sheet of paper
for easy clean up. The ink in the pen stays wet for a bit so you have plenty of
time to draw all the lines at once. On the smallest oval, draw curved lines
from top to bottom (no lip this time) and then pour the powder over. Clean up
the powder, and then heat emboss the ovals using tweezers to hold them so you
won't get burned.
Mist
the two ovals with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain and let it sit a moment
(Remember that I did two of everything, so don't let the picture confuse you.).
Blot the excess ink and let dry. Cut the top off of the largest oval along the
lip line you embossed and save that piece as it will be the back lip of the
vase. Cut the smallest oval in half for the base of the vase. You can save the
one of the halves for another project. Ink the edges of all three pieces with
Gathered Twigs. Using Collage Medium, adhere the half oval to the bottom of the
larger one for the base of the vase. You can cut the corners of the base piece
slightly so it will look a little more authentic on the table for later on as
well, just remember to ink the edges you cut. Turn the top piece upside down that you cut
off the large oval and adhere only the sides to the back of the top of the vase
so it looks like the back lip part of the vase. There should be a slit in
between the lips so you can slip the flower stems into in the next part. Set
this aside.
For
the flowers in the vase,
use Distress Watercolor Cardstock and die cut the Flower Field Thinlit, plus a
few more of the flowers you want to use (I die cut an extra delphinium and an
extra tulip.). Snip off all the flowers you want to use. I used all the tulips,
delphiniums, lilies, and the spiky looking ones. I'll save the daisy looking
ones for another project. Arrange the flowers around the vase so it will look
full and evenly spaced out. You might want to snap a pic for reference later or
just remember the arrangement. Since I made two it was easy for me to remember
how I wanted the arrangement to look.
Using the Embossing
Pen again, color over the delphinium flowers with the pen and then pour Broken
China Embossing Glaze powder over it. Heat emboss the flowers. The look will be
soft on the embossing because there is no ink behind to color the
flowers...such a soft subtle look. Do the same with the tulip and lily looking
flowers except use Antique Linen Embossing Glaze. Use Vintage Photo Embossing
Glaze for the spiky looking flowers. Once
all the embossing is finished (Yes, it's addicting to make these flowers!)
color the stems and leaves with a Detail Waterbrush and Peeled Paint Distress
Spray Stain (A tiny amount poured out onto the craft sheet is perfect to pick
up with the brush as a little goes a long way.) letting it dry a bit before
adding another layer to make it darker.
Add the flowers into
the vase like you laid out before using a little Collage Medium to make sure
they are all secured. Set the arrangement aside.
For the eggs, take a piece of White
Heavystock this time about 1 x 6 inches (I used a scrap piece about 5 x 5.),
and lightly and randomly paint over it with Speckled Egg Distress Paint like
you are dry brushing so some white parts are left behind (I used my finger.).
Let this dry a bit. Add a tiny amount of Picket Fence Distress Paint to the
craft sheet and mist a squirt of water into it and mix that up. Use a paintbrush
to pick up the paint and then flick it over the blue paper to create the
speckles. Clean the paintbrush, and then stick it inside the Frayed Burlap
Distress Spray Stain, and flick this over the paper. Do the same using the
Speckled Egg Distress Spray Stain. Dry the paper, and then die cut five of the
smallest ovals from the Ovals Stacked Tiles from the paper. Ink the edges of
these with Gathered Twigs. Set these just off to the side as you will need them
in the next part.
For the basket, die cut one of the
largest ovals from the Ovals Stacked Tiles from Ivory Heavystock. Mist this
lightly with water and place inside of the Intertwine 3D Texture Fade, and run
through the machine three times. Remove from the folder. If you have a few
places that broke through the paper it's just fine as it won't be noticeable
after it's finished. Using your finger, lightly rub Picket Fence Distress Paint
over the raised areas of the oval. Dry with a heat tool. Mist over the oval
heavily with Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain and let it sit for several
seconds to really let the ink set into the debossed areas. Dry with a heat
tool.
To
turn this oval into a bowl, cut an arch shaped line through the middle of the
oval, and save the other piece as it will be the back part of the bowl. Snip
off just a tiny bit of the center bottom edge of the front part of the bowl so
it will look like it has a flat bottom on the table, and you can throw the
snippet away. Ink the edges of both pieces heavily with Gathered Twigs. Turn the
cut off piece upside down and adhere the side portions only behind the front of
the bowl so it will now look like you have a complete bowl, and the center area
has a slit to place the eggs into. Gather up the eggs and arrange them, one in
the center and the other four around that, and then adhere them into the bowl
with Collage Medium like they are stacked up in the bowl. Lightly mist the bowl
of eggs with Distress Resist Spray for a nice sheen and to also set the inks.
Twist off the cap of the Resist and rinse with water and pump water through to
clean it out and have it ready for your next use. To finish the card, gather all your items and starting with flower
arrangement, adhere it onto the card front using Collage Medium and a little
foam tape on some of the front flowers and Collage Medium on the bottom of the
vase (I used clear foam tape behind the flowers.), but leave a little opening
on some of the flowers that will go around Mr. Rabbit's head as you want him to
look like he is smelling the flowers. Add Mr. Rabbit next, placing him beside
the flowers like he is nestled into them, using foam tape on his ears and body,
and Collage Medium on his feet. Cut between his hands if you need to look like he is
grabbing the vase. Foam tape the bowl of eggs between the two. Choose a
sentiment from the Small Talk Occasions, ink the edges in Antique Linen, mount
it onto Kraft Cardstock, cut it out, and add to the card front.
