Drawing Without An Eraser

Tag From Creative Chemistry 101 Day 2
Last week marked the start of Frilly & Funkie's first two-week split challenge.  The  normal format will be a challenge that runs two weeks.  Last week, the Frilly Design Team members presented you with their take on the challenge theme.  This week the Funkie Design Team members (one is Me) will show you how we were inspired by the challenge theme. The challenge theme is "I'll Take Your Word For It".  Words can be kind, comforting, encouraging, supporting. They can lift people up when they are down, they can give positive reinforcement or a giggle when we need it most.  I especially love thought provoking quotes.  For this challenge, let your sentiment take center stage and be the focal point of your project. You are sure to see all kinds of wonderful vintage samples that we hope will inspire you to play along by the Design Team. Please visit their blogs.

Creative Chemistry 101 introduced, as well as reintroduced, me to many techniques. Two techniques that I have always loved, but have let fall by the wayside for a bit, are Blended Spritz and Flick and Wrinkle Free Distress. These two techniques are what first made me fall into Tim love. I made so many things using them, but then picked up some new techniques and forgot about them. I've had a reawakening though, and now I am misting water like crazy.   I decided to use these to create my funkie card for the F&F's Design Team piece.
Frilly or Funkie, you can play along until next Tuesday.  We will have two winners - one random pick will receive a $15 gift certificate to the Funkie Junkie Boutique.  And one favorite pick of the design team will receive a winner's badge to display on their blog.  We can't wait to see your take on the challenge.
I applied the two shades of blue Distress Ink to my craft mat and spritzed with water, then dredged my kraft card through it several times, drying between layers.
I diecut the Townscape out of manila paper, and colored the roofs and sidewalk with Black Soot Distress Marker. The houses were colored in with various Distress Inks.
I flicked water droplets onto the houses for a bleached effect.
I inked the right top edge of the card with Mustard Yellow Distress Ink and added a quarter circle of manila paper that was also inked with Mustard then flicked with water. The Townscape was adhered and the borders of the card were inked in Vintage Photo. I drew white lines to form a border around the card and added black rays for the sun using a Sharpie. I wanted it to match the stamped image.
I used the tag above as my centerpiece here. I tore the edges and inked them, added white lines to form a border, and then added the filigree corners that were distressed with Snow White Mixative.

Supplies:

Designing this card made me feel like I was creating  something along the lines of all those ultra cool art journals I'm seeing a lot. Although, I have not gone there yet, this card made me think about joining on in. It sure was fun!
I am also submitting this card to Simon Says Stamp & Show's challenge of "A Tim Technique", and Unruly Paper Arts Blogazine Reader Art Quest II for "Inky Backgrounds".
I hope your hands get creatively dirty soon!

  1. Hello Anita
Seeing this gorgeous creation, has convinced me I am in need of some serious help..... would you believe that I have been playing with this 'Flick and Wrinkle Free Distress' ALL week, and nowhere on my desk can I see anything that resembles a Tag that is close to how yours has turned out!
So back to the drawing board, or I should say inking mat for me it seems. Hopefully by the time I need to use this Technique I will have something worthwhile to show.
Wonderful Funky style, and not too grungy which pleases my palate. The Townscape looks amazing at the bottom.
    Smiles:)

  10. Hi Anita - Your double Tim technique tag is wonderful! I know what you mean about re-visiting techniques that have been unused for a while. I love your sketchy border around the piece - it really gives a nice frame, and the little random dots are a great touch. Thanks for sharing your art with us at Simon Says Stamp and Show! Ellen :)
